NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea Handler will be taking her vodka drinking and tell-it-like-it-is humor to primetime!
Chelsea Handler’s popularity is going up faster than the Jersey Shore‘s arrest count. The comedienne is a best-selling author and her talk show, Chelsea Lately, has turned into a hit – averaging a half-million viewers which is much more than the average for late night cable programs. She will now be adding host of the MTV Video Music Awards to her credentials.
It has been confirmed that Handler will be hosting the 2010 MTV VMAs – the first woman to host the awards show since Rosanne Barr in 1994.
“This has been a huge year for hip-hop and rap, and it is well-known that I have the closest ties with these communities – musically and sexually,” Handler said in a statement. “I am to rap and hippity-hop, what Warren Buffet is to finance, minus the sex.”
Handler 35, is truly at the peak of her career. Aside from her hit show, two of her three books – “Are You There, Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea” and “Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang” – have been No. 1 on the New York Times Best Seller List.
She also announced her VMA hosting gig on her show last night.
“Everyone knows that when you think of rap music and hip-hop you think of ‘Chelsea Lately.’ And that’s why I will be hosting the show,” Handler quipped, before urging her staff to vie for the extra tickets MTV gave her. “Let the ass-kissing begin.”
The show is set to air September 12 at 9 p.m. from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.
