PHILADELPHIA, PA – Fans will think twice maybe three times about running onto the field at a Phillies game!
One fan just could not wait to get his 15-minutes of fame. There was no better place that achieve that than on Monday at Citizens Bank Park during the Phillies game. It just so happens that he made history, by being the first fan in team history to be subdued by a Taser gun.
The estimated attendance was over 44,000 and they all got front row seats to see the young teen be taken down by a Philadelphia police officer and his Taser gun. If you’re going to go down, you might as well go down in style.
“This is the first time that a Taser gun has been used by Philadelphia police to apprehend a field jumper,” Phillies spokeswoman Bonnie Clark said in a statement. “The Police Department is investigating this matter and the Phillies are discussing with them whether in future situations this is an appropriate use of force under these circumstances. That decision will be made public.”
The teen made several loops in center field with security personnel and the police officer in pursuit. Running on the field during a game is a crime and has been for decades.
Clark said that the suspect was 17-years-old and that he would be charged with criminal trespass. His name was not released because he is underaged.
