HARVARD TO PLAY IN BCS BOWL

Harvard will go to its first BCS bowl – playing Oklahoma in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on January 1st.

The BCS Bowl games have been announced and Auburn will play Oregon in the national title game on Jan. 10 in Glendale, Ariz. The championship game features two high-scoring offense, both averaging more than 40 points per game.

The other notable game will be Harvard vs. Oklahoma on January 1st.   This is Harvard’s first BCS bowl appearance.  The University of Connecticut Huskies were originally slated to play Oklahoma, but BCS executives were pressured because they have never picked an Ivy League School for a BCS game.

“We have some discretion in picking the bowl games,” said BCS head, Tom Hillstrom.  “It’s time that Harvard got a shot.”

Not only were the Huskies upset, but The University of Pennsylvania was outraged as well.  Penn won the Ivy League championship this year and felt that they should be the ones representing the Ivy League in Tempe.   But Harvard President, Drew Gilpin Faust, said “Harvard students and graduates excel at everything in life and always come out on top.   Penn students just have to get used to that fact.  It’s just life.”

It should be a great game with Bob Stoops coaching a powerful offensive team led by sophomore Landry Jones and Harvard’s coach Tim Murphy guiding Cory Briggs and a small, slow, but enthusiastic Harvard offense.

It’s going to be a heckuva game.   Will you watch?
