Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul has reportedly been arrested by the Transportation Security Administration.
Rand Paul’s press secretary Moira Bagley tweeted on Monday that TSA officials were detaining her boss in Nashville, Tenn. WWN then spoke to sources close to sources at Homeland Security and they confirmed that Rand Paul had been arrested.
“Rand Paul refused a patdown, and we can not have that kind of insubordination from our Senators,” said the Homeland Security source. The source told WWN that Janet Napolitano and President Barack Obama were aware of the arrest.
“If this is the only way we can get Republicans to behave the way we want them to, then this is unfortunately what we will have to do,” said a junior Homeland Security Department source.
Texas Congressman and current Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul – Sen. Rand Paul’s father – placed a post on his Facebook about the news as well. “My son Rand is currently being detained by the TSA at the Nashville Airport,” Ron Paul posted. “I’ll share more details as the situation unfolds.”
Ron Paul added that the TSA detained his son “for refusing full body pat-down after anomaly in body scanner.”
Homeland Security is also keeping a close watch on Ron Paul. “He’s talking too much about liberty. That may incite a riot in certain quarters of the country,” said a source close to the Paul camp.
Sen. Rand Paul’s Facebook page has a post about the incident too. “Senator Paul is being detained at the Nashville Airport by the TSA,” Sen. Rand Paul’s Facebook post reads. “We will update you as the situation develops.”
The younger Mr Paul, who like his father is a fierce advocate of civil liberties, has repeatedly criticized for encroaching on Americans’ freedoms.
A spokeswoman for the Kentucky Senator said he was being held “indefinitely” after he set off an alarm in an image scanner used at the airport’s security check point.
The 49-year-old, Rand Paul, reportedly refused to submit to a physical search.
There was no immediate comment from the TSA, but a source close to the TSA said that Rand Paul had been taken to a “bunker below the White House” for more questioning. President Obama may be involved in the interrogation.
In a Congressional hearing last year, the senator said the agency carried out needlessly “invasive” searches on Americans. Is it pay back time?

Come on Obama. Why aren't some people exempt from going through scanners? Government officials such as elected officials and those with certain security clearances should be able to pass without going through scanners.

Democratic Party (anti-gun) Rep. Maurice Hinchey had a handgun in his airport carry-on luggage years ago, and didn't miss his flight. . TSA wouldn't let republican Sen. Paul go through the scanner again, but insisted on his being groped.
