PORTUGAL – Despite his World Cup being over, one soccer superstar is still making headlines!
Nearly a week ago, Cristiano Ronaldo revealed that he was “a broken man” after his team’s loss in the World Cup. Yesterday, news broke that Ronaldo had fathered a love child. Now the news is that Ronaldo actually planned his child and used a surrogate mother to deliver his child.
Despite conflicting reports that the pregnancy was the result of a fling, Portuguese newspaper Diario de Noticias says Ronaldo’ baby boy was conceived with the help of a surrogate at the end of last summer in San Diego, according to the Daily Mail.
The Portuguese superstar found out of his son’s June 17 birth while competing in the World Cup in South Africa, and flew to meet the baby following Portugal’s elimination from the tournament. Once the news became public, Ronaldo took to his official website, Facebook and Twitter accounts over the weekend to announce his excitement.
“It is with great joy and emotion that I inform I have recently become father to a baby boy,” he wrote. “As agreed with the baby’s mother, who prefers to have her identity kept confidential, my son will be under my exclusive guardianship. No further information will be provided on this subject and I request everyone to fully respect my right to privacy and that of the child at least on issues as personal as these are.”
A spokesman for Ronaldo’s management company Gestifute told People magazine: “It’s all true but we don’t want to say any more.”
Ronaldo plans to raise his child in Spain, where he plays for Real Madrid. His sister, Katia Aveiro, told a Portuguese newspaper that the baby, weighing 9 pounds, 8 ounces, is the spitting image of his brown-eyed, dark-haired daddy.
