LOS ANGELES – When “The Hunger Games”  opens tomorrow, fans will  be shocked by the death of heroine Katniss Everdeen.

Since the premiere on Monday, rumors have been circulating among critics and die-hard fans of the book that director Gary Ross took his creative license too far by killing off the main character, played by Jennifer Lawrence.

Emma Posevitz, founder of The Hunger Games fan site, explained the potential for fan outrage in an interview after Monday’s premiere.

“I can’t say much at this point. We were forced to sign confidentiality agreements upon entering the theater. But I can tell you that real fans will be appalled. The film is visually impressive, but completely misrepresents the book. The whole story was changed. I heard they are already looking for a new director for ‘Catching Fire’ and ‘Mocking Jay.’ And I have to agree with that decision. Gary Ross should be banned.”

In the book, the first in the trilogy by Suzanne Collins, Katniss triumphs in a fight to the death against other representatives of the districts of Panem.
