JAY-Z SUES BIG PAPI

NEW YORK, NY – The artist currently known as Hov is not happy with the athlete currently known as Big Papi and slapped him with a heavy lawsuit!
Jay-Z has built an empire centered around his name. His influence reaches everything from music to fashion and everything in between. One of his best known business ventures is his chain of 40/40 club sports bar lounges. Well, David Ortiz thinks that it’s such a great idea that he’s launched his own club – Forty/Forty.
Jay-Z and business prtner Juan Perez own 40/40 Clubs in NYC, Atlantic City and LAs Vegas and envision clubs in Tokyo and Macau in the near future. Both individuals are accusing Ortiz of trading on the fame, value and goodwill of their respected name which according to them has caused their business “marketplace confusion and damage.”
“David Ortiz is full aware of the plaintiff’s Manhattan 40/40 Club, since he had been a patron there on several occasions long before he opened his infringing Forty/Forty Club,” said the lawsuit.
The lawsuit is seeking over $5 million in damages and for Ortiz to forfeit any use of the 40/40 name. The name is derived from the exclusive club in baseball made up of individuals hitting 40 home runs and stealing 40 bases. Ortiz is not a member of this club, with a career high of 10 stolen bases.
Neither Ortiz or his agency, SFX, have commented on the situation.
