Mayor Bloomberg wants a stronger connection with London. So he has purchased 21 jets that go from NYC to London in one hour!
The jet that goes from New York to London in one hour uses a revolutionary ‘scramjet’ engine that allows it to travel at hypersonic speeds.
The scamjets were recently tested at Edwards Air Force Base in the Mojave Desert.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg thinks that he can help the New York City economy enormously by allowing the hypersonic jet to fly 8 times a day between New York and London.
“The Mayor believes that in these tough economic times, there’s nothing better than spending $50 million dollars, each, on hypersonic jets,” said a source in New York City.
The Mayor anticipated pushback from many different groups, so he decided to fund the jets out of his own fortune. “It’s really just a drop in the bucket for me, so I don’t mind providing New Yorkers with a quick way to get to London.”
Bloomberg said that his only stipulation is that he wants twice as many Londoners coming to New York, than New Yorkers going to London. “I want them to spend their money here, not the other way around.”
Bloomberg himself plans on living in Camdentown for two weeks every month. “New Yorkers won’t even notice. The Mayor will get up at 7a.m. London time and be in New York at 2 a.m. He’ll have a full day and fly back to London to sleep.”
The aerospace technology used by the scamjets has excited many in the scientific community:
“Attaining sustained hypersonic flight is like going from propeller-driven aircraft to jet aircraft,” Jacob Weeks, deputy for technology in the high-speed systems division at the Air Force Research Laboratory in Ohio .
‘Since the Wright brothers, we have examined how to make aircraft better and faster. Hypersonic flight is one of those areas that is a potential frontier for aeronautics. And Mayor Bloomberg is putting New York City on the cutting edge.”
The scamjet project was originally funded by NASA and the Pentagon, who first hoped it would be used for military stealth aircraft but are happy that it will be used by New York women who want go on a shopping spree to London.
The Scamjet accelerates to about Mach 6 as it climbs to nearly 70,000 feet.
