SARAH FERGUSON SCANDAL

LONDON – Being royalty is not an easy thing and they make “mistakes” just like any other person!

Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson was caught with her hand in the cookie jar. On Sunday, she said she was “very sorry” for her lapse of judgement after she was recorded offering to sell access to her ex-husband Prince Andrew in return for 500,000 pounds.

In a statement the duchess admitted that she had financial problems, but “that is no excuse for a serious lapse in judgement and I am very sorry that this has happened.”

“I very deeply regret the situation and the embarrassment caused,” she said.

The tabloid News of the World posted video on its website that appears to show Fergusson discussing payment terms. She is heard to say “500,00 pounds when you can, to me, open doors.” Fegusson, 50, spoke to an undercover reporter posing as a businessman and said, “If you want to meet him in your business, look after me and he’ll look after you.” Asked if she was referring to the prince, she said: “Yeah.” Andrew, an international trade ambassador for Britain, had no knowledge of the meeting.

Ferguson married Andrew, who is fourth in line to the throne, in 1986. They had two children, princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, before divorcing in 1996. Ferguson has complained that her divorce settlement was stingy.

The sting was the latest scoop for undercover reporter Mazher Mahmood, nicknamed the “Fake Sheik” after his signature ruse of pretending to be a rich Persian Gulf businessman to dupe celebrities, politicians and suspected criminals.
