VATICAN AVATAR

VATICAN CITY – The Catholic Church has slammed the film ‘Avatar’ – for being godless!
The Vatican newspaper, L’Osservatore Romano, is the “semi-official” newspaper of the Church. It not only covers important Vatican matters, but also discusses more abstract beliefs in Catholicism, as well as review some mainstream media.
The newspaper printed their review of James Cameron’s film “Avatar”, and they were not pleased! The editors devoted three articles in total to covering the film, summing up that it is not only bland and shallow, but also has “few genuine emotions.”
The Vatican Radio was more direct about its dislike, claiming it “cleverly winks at all those pseudo-doctrines that turn ecology into the religion of the millennium.”
In the film, “nature is no longer a creation to defend but a divinity to worship.”
This matches up with Pope Benedict XVI’s warnings against the danger of worshiping nature as a “new divinity.” However, a Vatican spokesman has clearly stated that while the reviews reflect the Pope’s views, he does not officially approve anything printed.

  1. Obviously the newspaper of the Catholic Church either did not see the movie or they had myopic distorted vision when they did see "Avatar". Avatar shines with the light of "God" albiet he is a she and she is Goddess. The Na'vi being infinitely more consciously advanced than the Vatican, honor the earth, the plants and animals as one with all creation and believe they are interdependent with all of life. The Church believes they are the only way to God and teaches " a seprate from God philosophy " that damages all of humankind.

  2. Historically, the Vatican has been singularly myopic in its pronunciations regarding so many topics that one can hardly be surpised hearing its comments regarding "Avatar". Remember, these are the people against birth control, HIV education, and, going a bit back in history, pro witch burning, heretic burning, torture and don't forget the trouble they gave scientists like Galileo, whom they apologized to 400 years after his death. The only way anything these people have to say is relevant is that its almost always wrong and dangerous and should be noted as such.

    • You got that exactly right!
In addition, the Vatican wouldn't want anyone being reverant to anything other than what they specify as worthy of worship! It could potentially lose input on the Sunday coffers!

    • 2000 years of Vatican dogma and look at the mess the world is in. I think the time has come to give nature the reverend respect it deserves.

  3. Your comment is immature. It is like saying if a child does wrong he will continue doing wrong without doing anything right. See how stupid that sounds ?
What they say, if it is true “nature is no longer a creation to defend but a divinity to worship.” Then we ought to examine the movie and be careful not to embrace this new religion.

  4. Never mind the Vatican's appeasement to the Nazi Genocide….They are always behind the true morals of history and the real benefit of mankind

  5. After two thousand years of aiding European imperialists in gutting and demonizing the pagan nature worshippers around the world, perhaps the Vatican is uncomfortable to see that they have been less than successful in eradicating opposing theological points of view all together. Has it occurred to them that a movie with this message would never have been made but for the excesses of violence that the Church has had a hand in making? What next? Condemning Hollywood sex as a cover to avoid the massive conspiracy of paedophilia that has been thrust upon society by Catholic priests? I suggest they remove the beam from their own eye…

  6. Of course the Vatican says it has "Few Genuine Emotions". Why would a church that tried to wipe out lots of indigenous people get emotional about a race fighting for its very existence?

  7. This pope disappoints more and more. His views reflect 14th century thinking and in almost 5 years he has not made one single trip to Latin America, one of the largest Catholic communities in the world.

  8. The Catholic Church has found itself a new opportunity to try to enforce its archaic viewpoint on the masses. If God is creation, then creation is God, no matter what the form may be. If God created nature, then He left it in natures hands to carry on His great work. It is possible to honour nature and Darwinism while still respecting and honouring God in the process. Nature is not a false God, it is the continuation of Gods work. Motion pictures are the facination of man and sometimes the platform in which man peers into the mysteries of life and with the brain that God gave him, come to a conclusion. God would like this movie!

  9. I for one believe that the world is much too complex and seemingly without beginning and without end to not have had some supreme intervention in the evolution of the world as we know it. No craftsman or inventor will get it right the first time or second, but usually after many iterations of effort. My God is such a craftsman and we continue to see the evolution of His efforts that many relate to unassisted or "natural" evolution. But the Catholic Church and its rules of reverence has created one of the most powerful and rich organizations the world has seen. They do this through personalized interpretations, fear, intimidation and such and all for the purpose of holding on grip on those that feed the beast.

  10. Avatar was a movie of super graphics and effects . . with a "believe it or not" rendition of interactions with living "beings" from other God made worlds. Other worlds may manifest its believe in a superior being (God) in many different ways . .. why does the Vatican believe it has a lock on such manifestations. What if they are wrong in their practice of profit for the belief in God. Does the Catholic Church shun any other manifestation of reverence to the powerful presence of such a God . . only to protect their own interpretation of this . . for profit. How does an organization garner such wealth, holdings and money in the name of a supreme craftsman that only continues to tinker with his creation . . .

  11. I think the Vatican is correct. How dare people worship such silly ideas when the Catholic Church professes ideas that are far more logical – such as virgin births, a guy who walks on water, and an eternal battle going on between a celestial good fairy (God) and a subterranian hobgoblin (Satan).

  12. I think the Vatican is totally wrong with this new comment about a different God from the one they "the catholic church" is proclaiming. Now, who cares that, I think everyone is free to decide on what or who to believe in. I think the pope should worry about his pedophile maniac "god messengers" in his church, why doesn't he do something? could it be that he is a pedophile himself and everything is done because he says it? who knows, but how things go now, I think that it is. Avatar is just another movie showing us what can happen or has happened in our life in different years through history when governments try to take over one weaker place. There have been many people through years saying that earth has its own life, some named it…Gaia, do I care or get mad because of it? No, because that is their belief, I believe in what I want and other in what they want. I think the Vatican should take care of his pedophile army first and all the problems they have first and later try to resolve the different problems around the world.

  14. As per usual the Vatican have missed the point that good will triumph over evil. I believe this is parrelled by God will triumph over the devil. It also has parellels with bully boy mentality ie USA and Vietnam etc that a large company/country can steal the land and its riches from the true owners. White over black, White man over Apache etc.
Anywhere the Vatican and the USA make money at the expense of the true owners of the country. Forced beliefs, torture if you do or did not agree with the Catholic religion and stand by by the Catholic Church with the Holecost in Europe between 1938 and 1945. The church stood by and made no objection until nuns and priests with concience started getting raped, torture and killed.
Vatican and USA wake up whilst it is a movie the message is clear. Practice what you preach.
And live in harmony in gods world

  15. The message of Avatar that the Vatican just doesnt get, is that its about "oneness". or "Allness". They see God as a being that created everything, and is therefore above its creation. As such, they see it as an error to "worship creation" The fact is "the only thing that actually exits IS God". God is the sole reality. Creation…or "all matter", is actually only energy. Even science knows this. Subatomically, all matter is energy. This energy in turn is "consciousness"…God him/herself. God ultimately has no form. God is the "unmanifest allness"…creation is the unmanifest become manifest. There is nothing but God. We need to understand what the term GOD really means. When the word God is mentioned, it jags up lots of strong beliefs in people. This was the main reason Buddha was reluctent to use the word God. But we can understand the word accurately. The word GOD, can be said to refer to the prime simplicity (consciousness) which 1) Generates (G). 2) Operates (O), and 3) (if so decided) , Destroys (D) manifest creation. In the film Avatar, the contrast is clear…The natives of Pandora understand that everything is OF and FROM the one…there is NO separation. From this viewpoint, love and respect for each other and all of creation is a natural consequence. The contrary view is representative of the consciousness currently on this planet. We see things seperately. Them, and us. Competing interests, conflict. The economy and the environment. etc etc. In "ALLNESS", nothing is seperate. When we truly UNDERSTAND this, we realize that our current paradigm of living is fatally flawed. To hurt others IS to hurt ourselves. Thus, harmony and co-operation become preferable over competition and "getting the edge". I could go on and on. Unfortunately, you either understand or you dont (cant).

  16. I say that the movie is brilliant, i believe it will kindle a new state of mind in many individuals. It will get us caring for our planet more, after all what was happening on Pandora mimics what we are doing to our own planet. As far as connecting with mother nature, who wouldnt want to. I certainly wish i could live on Pandora as a Navi. The church is frightened of any thing that challenges the spiritual aspect of the human mind. If a movie has the power to wake up the human mind to a better state, it should be praised, not condemened!. I for one love the movie, and felt so many emotions during and after the screening. How could you not?

  18. I don't believe one single person said they were about to run outside and go worship the tree or flower they see growing outside their window so that comment was just a tad uninformed. Why does the Catholic Church see every new idea or development as a threat? Why must they attack it? Avatar was a great movie with some fantastic messages including harmony and unity with god. One would think they would want to promote that message.

  19. What the Vatican says is ridiculous! The movie isn't about worshiping nature, necessarily, it's a message of not destroying it, and being in tune with it. How can the Catholic Church and the Vatican be so narrow-minded and dogmatic that they actually believe the movie is a threat?
