DALLAS, TX – Another high profile NFL player has had a run in with the law!
Vince Young is the latest NFL player to lose his cool and have contact with the police. The bad news for Young is that his whole ordeal was caught on camera. The Titans quarterback could face some sort of punishment from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell who does not like to see his players involved in any sort of negative light.
Young was given a Class C assault citation after being involved in a 3 a.m. fight at a Dallas strip club, striking a man in the face. The video seems to show the man flashing an upside down “hook ’em horns” sign. Young took exception to that as he won a national title at Texas.
There were no arrests and the police said a Class C assault is like a “traffic citation” with a fine not to exceed $500.
“There was a conversation going on between Mr. Young and several people inside the office,” said Dallas police Lt. Craig Miller, acting commander of the Crimes Against Persons Division. “One of the club employees makes a gesture contradictory to the University of Texas, the ‘Hook ’em’ sign upside down. This obviously made Mr. Young upset.”
Titans Coach Jeff Fisher, speaking on behalf of the organization, told The Tennessean on Sunday that the team was aware of the situation.
“Members of the organization have been in touch with Vince,” Fisher said. “At this point, we’re just gathering facts. I have nothing else to say about it. I can’t speculate, can’t go into detail. We’re just gathering facts. I’m sure we will have a lot more information over the next few days.”
Greg Aiello, the NFL’s vice president of public relations, said the league will look into the Sunday morning incident. Young’s actions fall under the league’s personal-conduct policy, which commissioner Goodell strengthened in 2007. “We hold ourselves to a higher standard of respectable conduct,” Goodell said.
