Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet has separated from Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes. The couple had been marries for nearly seven years.
The couple’s law firm, Schillings, said the split was “entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement.”
The two last worked on the film “Revolutionary Road” where Winslet co-starred with Leonardo DiCaprio and Mendes directed. It’s believed that the couple’s relationship went downhill after the film. Winslet won a Golden Globe for her role in the film and affectionately thanked her husband.
“Thank you for directing this film, babe, and thank you for killing us every single day and really enjoying us actually being in such horrific pain,” she said. “But I can honestly say with my hand on my heart that I love every second of working with you and it’s made me love you more.”
The reason reported for the split is that the couple lost its spark, but that isn’t necessarily the case. WWN reports that Winslet developed an infatuation for the infamous Bat Boy that drove the marriage to the breaking point. Her heart began to lean in a new direction and the couple was never the same.
WWN correspondent Tristen Howard was able to contact a friend close to the situation. “Kate’s infatuation, desire and love for Bat Boy grew with every day that passed. Sam is a great individual but sometimes your heart is the strongest muscle. Kate tried to make it work for the kids, but in the end she had to do what was best for her. She hopes to one day come into contact with Bat Boy and express her true feelings,” Winslet’s friend told WWN.
