CHINA – A young Chinese boy has had to endure a very unusual condition until now!
The boy, who remains unnamed, was born with 31 fingers and toes. The six-year-old had five extra fingers and 6 extra toes. He has undergone a 6 1/2-hour surgery in Shengjing Hospital in Shenyang, China.
Some of the child’s fingers had fused together but doctor’s were able to remove 11 fingers and toes. According to his mother, the boy had been called a “monster” by his kindergarten classmates. He may, however, hold the record for the greatest number of fingers and toes on a human being according to the Daily Mail.
The condition responsible for the extra fingers and toes is known as polydactyly and is considered a relatively rare genetic disorder. It’s common with this condition to have the extra digits grow on the little finger side of the hand. The unnamed boy has central polydactyly however, a rarer version of the condition in which the middle fingers are affected.
