CHELY WRIGHT REVEALS SHE'S A LESBIAN

NEW YORK, NY – A popular country singer has “come out” and revealed some interesting news!
The world of country music is conservative, to say the least. Singing that someone thinks your tractor is sexy is fine, but the country music scene might not be as accepting when it comes to expressing your sexuality. Chely Wright felt intimidated by that understanding, and because of it, she held on to a secret for a long time.
“There had never, ever been a country music artist who had acknowledged his or her sexuality,” Wright told PEOPLE. “I wasn’t going to be the first.”
Regardless of what country music has experienced and despite those conservative roots, Wright has gone with her heart and revealed to the world that she is a lesbian.
“Nothing in my life has been moor magical than the moment I decided to come out,” she added.
It was difficult doing something that she loved, but knowing that she might not be accepted because of who she really was. Her southern upbringing also presented an obstacle in her quest for total comfort and freedom.
“I hid everything for my music,” the country singer says.
She has written a memoir, “Like Me: Confessions of a Heartland Country Singer,” and it is due on shelves on Tuesday. Her new album, “Lifted off the Ground,” also hits stores on Tuesday.
