NEW YORK, NY – Google has bought some of its own ads to explain to users why a racist image of Michelle Obama is coming up.
Google is the number one search engine in the world. It uses a link analysis algorithm called “PageRank” to determine which results come up first for a search.
The exact math of the algorithm is kept secret, so Internet spammers and tricksters cannot manipulate the results.
However, a particularly offensive and racist image of First Lady Michelle Obama has become the first result for any Google Image searches for her name.

As such, Google has purchased its own ad space directly above the image to explain how this has happened: “Sometimes Google search results from the Internet can include disturbing content, even from innocuous queries. We assure you that the views expressed by such sites are not in any way endorsed by Google.”
“Individual citizens and public interest groups do periodically urge us to remove particular links or otherwise adjust search results. Although Google reserves the right to address such requests individually, Google views the integrity of our search results as an extremely important priority. Accordingly, we do not remove a page from our search results simply because its content is unpopular or because we receive complaints concerning it.”
Google had previously removed the same image from its search results when a different site was hosting it, as the site “violated Google’s guidelines by serving malware to visitors.” However, a new site hosting the image is within their guidelines.

  1. You know what the irony of all this is? All these news sites are including the picture in their articles and it is only going to increase the number of hits for this image in the search results.

  2. Clearly racism is alive and thriving in the US, though white Americans still pretend that it is not a real problem. To depict Mrs. Obama in such an offensive form is reprehensible but expected by Whites in the US today. Had a similarly offensive photo been made of Jackie Kennedy , Barbara Bush, Nancy Reagan, Laura Bush or even Hillary Clinton, it would NOT have been tolerated by Whites or anyone for that matter. All people especially people of color need to show their outrage at the disrespect shown and Google MUST remove the item as well as do everything to prohibit such occurrences. It's not enough to blame algorhythms.

    • You are so correct in thinking this way. I doubt very much that racism throughout the world will ever be conquered. Racism is not only black on white and vice versa but also against different ethnic, cultural and classes. Personally I view people of all cultures as humans first. Sadly the person who posted this picture of the first lady has no idealogy of what mankind really is.

  3. Seems to me it was done before:
Not that I necessarily agree, but I think that in many ways chimps have many impressive qualities that we as humans lack. I understand the racial undertones, but personally I would much rather be a chimp.

  4. No matter what the old saying, 'you will always get one' comes to mind. There will always be some nasty racist or dumb fool somewhere thinking they are clever by posting stupid pictures or writing something pathetic. This is one problem we have with the internet, although it's use for good still far outweighs the odd time that an idiot puts something up to ruffle a few feathers.
