ORLANDO, FL – The astronaut at the center of 2007’s bizarre NASA love triangle has agreed to a plea bargain.
Lisa Nowak is a former NASA astronaut who had a two-year long affair with fellow astronaut William Oefelein. Oefelein broke it off near the end of 2006, as he began to see Colleen Shipman, an engineer.
Nowak soon became obsessed with ending their relationship, to the point where she drove straight from Houston, Texas to Orlando, Florida to confront Shipman. She brought latex gloves, a wig, pepper spray, a hammer, garbage bads, a BB pistol and an 8-inch knife. Authorities said she also wore adult diapers in order to cut out any rest stop breaks, but Nowak has adamantly denied this.
Nowak found Shipman parked in the Orlando International Airpot parking lot, and slapped the window, asking for a ride. When Shipman lowered the window, Nowak sprayed pepper spray inside. Shipman quickly drove off and contacted police, who arrested Nowak trying to throw out evidence.
Although she was intially charged with attempted murder and attempted kidnapping, today Nowak entered a guilty plea to lesser charges of burglary and misemeanor battery. Her lawyer stated she suffered from major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, insomnia and “brief psychotic disorder” at the time of the crime.
She has been sentenced to a year of probation and 50 hours of community service. She must also write a letter of apology to Shipman, who was certain Nowak always intended to kill her.
It's Not Captain Nowak's fault. Blame NASA's equipment.

Ms. Nowak is a cheat and a backstabber. I don't have any sympathy for her. I
do have sympathy with her husband. they are separated now.
i know he filed for divorce some time ago. Maybe he found out the court
system would screw him so its cheaper to remain separted rather than divorce
the piece of sh*t. he needs to find a girlfriend or maybe he already found
one.
Bill Oefelein is a jerk cause he dated somebody's wife.
I have to have some sympathy for her…according to neighbors her home life with her husband was not good and she was also devastated by her best friend's death and was taking care of that woman's child, along with her own, while also doing her duties, etc., at NASA. Oefelein is the jerk in this because he led her along. Personally, I don't see what either woman saw in him, but then I also do not see what Oefelein sees in Shipman. I watched an interview with Shipman and did not find her completely believable. It seemed like she was playing to the cameras. I do not think Nowak was going to kill her. Obviously, it was scary, but for Shipman and Oefelein to say they are having a hard time getting on with their lives is ridiculous. HE is the one who caused the situation in the first place

What's an O-3 in the Air Force doing getting involved with an O-6 in the Navy with children of his own? She's got that needing a father figure going on. Daddy must have been an alcoholic. If I was Lisa Nowak I would be angry too.
