BISHKEK – An ice-skating circus bear has killed one person and injured another during rehearsals!
The Russian State Circus was touring Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan when the accident happened.
“The incident occurred during a rehearsal by the Russian state circus company troupe which was performing in Bishkek with the program, Bears on Ice,” Ministry of Culture and Information director Kurmangazy Isanayev
The 5-year-old bear lashed out and killed circus administrator Dmitry Potapov, and seriously injured it’s animal handler as he tried to restrain the animal. The handler ended up with bruising to the brain and lacerations to his scalp.
The bear was later shot by police.
At the time, it was wearing ice skates, as many of Russia’s circuses train bears to wear skates and play ice hockey.
