LONDON – A BBC news presenter has made some shocking claims in response to a failed tax debate!
Sian Williams has made it very clear that nice clothes and hair are essential for her to do her job. They are of such importance that Williams believes they should be tax deductible. If it’s not the case, she would be willing to present her BBC show naked.
Williams is host of BBC Breakfast and brought her claims to a tribunal. They were establish whether the costs for hairstyling, clothing and cleaning costs to look good on screen could en tax deductible. The tribunal rejected the claim, after hearing arguments from her accountant.
“She would be prepared to read the news without clothes and only wears the clothes because her employer requires it,” her accountant said.
It was later clarified that Williams never actually made such a bold claim. Michael Weissbraun admitted that she had not actually made the comments.
“She might not have said that exact form of words. It was an argument that I advanced and it was to make a point that clothes were needed not only to keep warm,” he said. “She gave me the go-ahead (to bring the case) but it was nothing she had been involved with. There was no need for her to attend the hearing. She had already paid the tax. It was a question of whether she could get something back or not.”
