George St-Pierre, the reigning UFC welterweight champ, is scheduled to have a cage match against a gorilla. May the best beast win.
George St-Pierre, known simply as GSP, is a Canadian mixed martial artist and the current Welterweight Champion of the UFC. St-Pierre is ranked as the No. 1 Welterweight in the world.
GSP made his UFC debut at UFC 46, where he defeated highly ranked Karo Parisyan by unanimous decision. His next fight in the UFC was against Jay Hieron at UFC 48. . St-Pierre defeated Hieron via technical knockout in only 1:42 of the first round.
Following his second win in the UFC, he faced Matt Hughes at UFC 50 for the vacant UFC Welterweight Championship and he lost. St-Pierre rebounded with a several victories including over Jason Miller at UFC 52 in a bloody battle. He has been the reigning champ since that time.
The UFC wanted to schedule a “man vs. beast” competition and GSP was one of the only fighters willing to take on a gorilla. The gorilla, however, will not be full-grown – it will only be a two-year old gorilla.
“A small chimpanzee could kill a man,” said St-Pierre, “it is almost impossible to think that I can defeat a gorilla, even a young gorilla, but I will take the beast on and I will win.”
St. Pierre weights 170 lbs., the juvenile gorilla that has been selected, Mr. Moppy, weighs approximately 250 lbs.
The event is slated for March’s UFC 145 event, which is the first Canadian show of the year, takes place March 24 at Bell Centre in Montreal.
Las Vegas oddsmakers give Mr. Moppy 97-1 odds of defeating Mr. Moppy. Good luck, GSP!
