PALO ALTO – Facebook continues to deny rumors it is shutting down on May 15th of 2013. WWN, however, has confirmed that it is true.
On January 9th, WWN’s ace reporter, J.B. Smitts, broke the international story that Facebook was going to close down on January 15th because Mark Zuckerberg wanted to return to a normal life. The story caused a worldwide sensation, and J.B. Smitts has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for breaking it.

Facebook COO, Sheryl Sandberg has publicly denied the rumors, saying, “Facebook is not going to close down. Not now, not ever. We’re just getting started.”
David Ebersman, the CFO of Facebook, and the man working with Goldman Sachs on the new Facebook financing deal said, “many people feel that the deal with Goldman Sachs will lead to a change in Facebook or that we might shut down so the government won’t force us to go public. All of those rumors are false. We are going to be stronger than ever after May 15th.”
But WWN has spoken to insiders at Facebook who strongly contradict the public statements of the executive management team.
Sources inside Facebook tell us that the company is already making plans on how to handle the big shutdown. “We can’t just turn it off on May 15th, 2013. There will be a revolution,” said one insider. “We have to prepare our users for the end of Facebook and offer them ways to keep their social networks alive.”
Zuckerberg maintains that one year is enough time for users to prepare for the demise of Facebook. It also gives rival sites time to build up their user base.
There were rumors that Zuckerberg himself was going to appear on the Oscars or a the Super Bowl, but Zuckerberg did not show up at either event. New rumors are that Zuckerberg will make “an important announcement to the world” about the future of Facebook when he meets with President Obama in the White House on April 15th.
Meanwhile, there is panic all around the globe as Facebook users (and addicts) are frightened that they may lose their social networking community. Top celebrities Tyra Banks, Mila Kunis, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Justin Beiber, Ashton Kutchter, Carrot Top, Meryl Streep, Danny Bonaduce and the Real Housewives of New Jersey and Atlanta are all panicking about losing Facebook. “I’m addicted to Facebook,” said Tyra Banks. “Without it, my life is over!”
An online petition was started just hours ago to help persuade Zuckerberg and Facebook to remain open.
The organizer of the “Please Do Not Shut Down Facebook Petition”, Fritz Barnkopf, said, “we hope to get a million or more signatures before the Oscars, so Mark Zuckerberg will reconsider his tragic decision.”

I think it was a rumor that needed to be started. It's incredible how people react when they thought that facebook was shutting down. I mean the way the article described people's reaction to the rumor was some what true, not as all out as described, but very similar. I had classmates, friends, and family members worried about this facebook shutting down scheme. It's great website to keep in touch with old friends that are not close by, but serioulsy to go into a total panic attack and become emotional about it, is very pathetic.

Facebook is a damage to all and to me especially. That is because of the fact that Facebook takes the photos of their users. Then Facebook uses the photos for advertising purposes. Who knows what else they may be capable of doing with your personal informatin. But whatever Facebook does with your personal information is not good at all. I don't know about you people but I would be really angry if Facebook were to use my personal information for any bad purposes. I'm not going to say yes or no to shutting down Facebook. I myself love playing Farmville and FarmTown, at least 12 hrs. a day. Mark i think that this is a great decision to shut down facebook. It has ruined my life as well. Do us all a favor and Shut it down! Sure, it keeps people connected and in touch. But so many people don't realize how bad its consuming their time and making them "addicts". When they could be doing something so much more productive and creative. Because of Facebook many people and kids as young as even six years old don't even go outside and play anymore. Even teenagers, who depend on it as if it's some sort of life saver, use it alllll the time. It's ridiculously time consuming and it's changing who people are, especially with the advantage of saying anything you want, whether it's good or bad, people are not as tough as when they are behind the screen with their keyboards in hand. Facebook should get shut down, It'd save us all. Facebook isn't reality, going for a walk, flying a kite, a barbecue with your family, or even a stroll around the mall with your friends, indeed is. A social network shouldn't be something you depend on. Look at it third person, at what it has done world wide. People could just cry at the thought of Facebook getting shut down, Its Sad. Sickening.

Please don't let this happen. It's not about " being addicted" to face book but about staying in touch with long lost friends and also our hundreds of new friends. FB is just so perfect in every way . It provides us a chance to send messages, share photos, chat and post our latest updates. As for a little suggestion, why don't you leave fb with the newsfeed, wall, message inbox and ofcourse the chat window and take away all other game applications . But simply shutting it down after it has become a part of our lives is simply not a good enough option!

After reading some of the comments all I can say is, " all good things must come to an end." Even if Facebook decides to stay, I feel their ad prices will go up. If Goldman Sachs is involved with buying Zuckerberg out, then the price being paid will simply transfer to FB's clients. That's how business works. Huffington Post has disregarded this whole rumor to be just that – a rumor, but FB may be making a HUGE change in corporate leadership.
One last thing, especially the posters who seemingly cannot spell – get off of FB/your computer and READ your school textbooks THEN do the homework that has been assigned. It's SO embarrassing to see so many people in this country that cannot spell simple words correctly. As a society we are deemed to be concerned about foreign military might, and maybe it's because we cant stand the thought of simply looking at the MASSES of illiterate inside our own borders. They did fix a memory leak issue that was crashing all of my computers over a period of time if you stayed on the site and did things. Now with the new update, no more issues…just a little more difficult to get around and find things. But we are human and will adjust to anything if we put forth the effort. In addition, this site is fake. I don't believe they will ever charge, as they have repetitively stated in the past and recently. These sites are just designed to get all you folks going, and some not….just ignore anything you hear, and don't believe everything you hear. What's the point? Life goes on, right? RIGHT!

Facebook started with good intentions the owners didnt make it bad I think if they can take time and see some of the unlawful things some people do and post on facebook and block it before its out there I had a niece that was killed a year ago her page is still open and her sister uses it to have fundraisers using her children name which is our familys
name for her personal gain I think if you are deased after six month your information should sent to facebook and your page should not be used by anyone six months is enough time for anyone who knew you to send messages to the grieving family and block out the thieving ones

Why do we try to heal people from every other addiction, but we do NOTHING with internet addiction. please dont shut down facebook for my mom uses it to keep in contact with her family that has just found each other from the westcoast and they finally had gotten close because of the costs of cellphone usage and the costs of living this is the only way they can keep in contact. And for some people that dont have a vehicle and money to go out and socialize and meet new people they probably use facebook to keep themselves occupied if i were the owner who ran this site i would try to find a way to remove the people that take it as a joke and game to hurt other people…and not punish the people who really care about the site and use it for what the really use it for..Please think about it long and hard before shutting it down because i am sure you can find a way around certain things.

Facebook is a complete waste of time. I think it is a very wise decision to shut this down. If people can not handle their lives with out facebook, than that is really pathetic. I'm glad that Zuckerberg at least is taking charge of his own freakish creation. It's time for people to go back to the lifestyle of living life, rather than viewing it through a screen. Sure, a lot of us have never stopped living and for many facebook has gifted us with new friends and adventures, party invites etc, but over all the damage facebook is having on society and the next generation is too negative to be given facebook anymore time to exist.
Having an online diary for everyone who doesn't care can be helpful for those of us who have emotional needs that we haven't been able to satisfy, and sure posting our feelings and concerns and daily garble has been really positive in helping cope with reality, but it's only enabling people to continue this attention (post/reply seeking) seeking behavior. It's about time for all of us to stop crying and complaining and start forming constructive ways to take action.
There needs to be change. We lived through great depressions, wars, bigotry, conservative traditions that harmed us more than helped, the y2k fear, terrorism, and more, so why should facebook be given a chance to outlive our decade douchebaggery? Let the next generation have a chance at running around, learning and living life on their two feet and not in the palm of their hands or their fingertips. If it wasn't for all the young and wild youth we wouldn't be as great as we are.
Give the kids a chance to step away from their computers and their webcams and their "we gotta look great for the camera" attitude, and get them to wake up and experience life again.

I think shutting it down is a bad thing (okay Im not your avid facebook person i check it once a day maybe like 5 minutes a day) but the point is facebook is a great way to see or find friends you haven't seen in awhile. Also i like making online friends because a lot of people around me don't have the interest I do. Also if there's news good, bad, petitions you can send them to your friends. you can get in touch with all kinds of people around the world. I must say that if Facebook closes down it would be my dream come true. I can truly and honestly say that I do not like and I protest to any social Networks. I am not on any social Networks because like other smart people that have posted here anyone with any intelligence knows that social networks do ruin peoples lives and marriages and even some business. I feel that by anyone putting themselves on a social network is inviting anyone and everyone to know your business and know who your friends and contacts are and people use this information for doing bad things. So on the first note it is not wise or important for you to give anyone details has your mother ever told you not to speak to strangers? Well what are you doing then? and on the second note if communication was meant to be free why do we need home phones, office phones, pay phones. why do we need to buy phones they cost money you need a service plan or pay as you go. Maybe we should just stop comunicating my our vocal chords let our fingers do the talking is that not the slogan for the Yellow Pages let your fingers do the talking. So lets all stop buying phones see how all the big phone companies like that. The reason being at the same time that they're becoming more and more inexpensive, their computing power is growing to the point where they're as effective as desktop from just a few years ago.

Well. This came as shocking news to me.
I would be fine with Facebook shutting down because of how it hurts society in ways, but I'm incredibly angry at the decision. I have friends that have moved far to the other side of the country and I could only contact them through Facebook. A group of friends of mine will have a harder time to find out the homework that night because we won't have the ability to contact each other. Use a phone? We don't know each others' phone numbers. I also have a group of friends that I met with Facebook back in 2010. We have no other way of talking to each other.
Facebook had changed my life in a good way. Even though I'm probably alone on this, I don't want to see Facebook go. It's changed my life for the better. If Facebook does shut down, I hope my friends and I can find a social network similar to it.

My uncle Troy Estep was a stutman untill he passed away and my Mother is the one who MADE THE HORSE TRAILS and worked as a wrangler for quite some time. I am now almost 18 and starting my job there as a wrangler in the next few days…LOTS OF FUN…I recommend Old Tucson to everyone

I joined a group of over 10,000 about 5 months ago, and we all share one common interest. It's so much easier to make friends here, because we know that we all like the same thing. I’m glad FB is shutting down. People should spend more time doing something else other than being on FB eight and ten hours a day almost every day of the week, like really dude. I like FB…I can talk to friends from school that I don't have the ability to go see (and yes some of them don't have cell phones) plus I've made alot of great friends because of facebook. I totally agree with you Des. Facebook has more cons than pros. People have a tendency to stalk each other to see what they are doing and I have seen countless people post their life stories that should NEVER be posted for all their friends to see. I admit. I did so as well, but people use Facebook more like a diary if you will for status updates than a social network. There is too much that can easily go wrong. I have lost dear friends due to facebook that I otherwise would still have and have made myself look stupid and crazy by posting stupid stuff on it. There needs to be a simplified social network where you cannot post your business for all to see, but just upload pictures in albums and comment on them. It has just gotten out of control with the way Facebook operates. I'm better off not knowing everyone's business and actually ASKING them how they have been instead of looking at their Facebook page to see the stuff they posted. Much more natural if you ask me and a WHOLE lot less stressful and worry free that you don't see people's dirty laundry.

Facebook is the most Evil Social Website ever created, it doesn't help you in any shape or form, your communication skills will not improve it will just stay the same, the only way to improve communication skills is talking face to face with someone, that way you'd understand there feelings you look at there face expressions to know what you said was right or wrong, talking in front of a screen is different, you'd say random things that you wouldn't mean to say, there's been more break ups & arguements on Facebook than talking face to face… Facebook should be shut down it's for the best for human kind…
I use fb because I live 630 miles from my family and friends. I moved to better my life with better job oppurtunities. I work in a field that I deal with people face to face everyday. People that are using fb for other social outlets are just ruining it for everyone but do not say that it is Evil and doesnt help people. I have excellent face to face skills as you put it

I am just so happy for that news. If they shut it down, great! Now everyone can become normal again. I say that Facebook is horrible these days. Even though I use them once in a while, my best friend got in a stupid fight about this and I want to ignore her and shutting it down is a good way to do it. She ALWAYS get angry at whatever I do. Even if she knows it's her fault. She says to copy and paste something about this and I didn't want to so she started calling me a liar for no reason! I mean, she is always like that. I can't wait until it shuts down.
