The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reportedly published a post on their “Ocean Facts” newsfeed titled “Conclusive Evidence of the Existence of Aquatic Humanoids.”
The agency went on to say that “magic females”, who first appeared in cave paintings in the late Paleolithic (Stone Age) period some 30,000 years ago, when modern humans began to sail the seas, do exist and are living in all the oceans of the world.
Animal Planet television recently aired a special called “Mermaids: The Body Found,” that also proved the existence of mermaids.
National Ocean Service spokeswoman Sandy Nixon told WWN that “at least 65 mermaid researchers and experts gathered on the island of Tahiti to examine all the known evidence and have concluded, emphatically, that half human half-fish hybrids are living peacefully among us.
Mermaid experts say that the majority of mermaids are in the warmer waters of the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, but that many have been spotted in the Pacific Ocean and Southern Atlantic. “There is a large school of mermaids, swimming just outside Ocean City Maryland,” said mermaidologist, Marcus Plumkin, of the University of Florida.
WWN has also learned that recently the U.S. government has captured 7 mermaids and that they are being kept at an undisclosed aquarium, where they are being studied. President Obama has personally met the mermaids and was quite impressed – according to reports.

I really do believe they exist, but this article seems to be having a laugh due to the H20: Just Add Water pictures on it. I think mermaids do transform between human and mer form (although I KNOW H20 isnt real). They had to get that theory from somewhere though, didn't they? And that was a myth long before the show was made. Mermaids exist in the deepest parts of the ocean, I'm sure of it! There's a video on youtube from a guy diving in the great barrier reef, testing his new camera, and he sees a creature that appears to be a mermaid, moving at a much faster speed than any human could in water. (He's terrified upon seeing it, because he just glanced up and it was right above him, speeding away). And mermaids have been rumoured for millions of years. People need to realise that just because there is no evidence of something yet doesn't mean there never will be. Although I highly doubt the USA has mermaids captured. If they did have, they would tell people- it's not a covert thing. They'd consider it a huge scientific discovery and announce it across the globe. 😛 That being said, if I found a mermaid I certainly wouldn't capture it or tell people about it.

I believe there is more to some mythological creatures than fictional stories. While the creatures may not be exactly as described there is a good chance that creatures that once lived among us and no longer exist are where these "myths" come from. Just as "Gods" and the stories about them probably have some truth to them.
I believe in one God but I also believe that in this universe we are not alone and some time in the past we were visited by beings who resemble us as we are today but they are and were far more advanced. Also like our people here, there were good beings and bad beings. Angels and Demons. Soon to wage spiritual and physical warfare.
Those are just my perceptions of what could be true but without definitive evidence it means nothing. Still I live my life open to the idea that many of the things we think we know to be true are in fact false.

As far as evolution is concerned, mermaids(Human and fish hybrids) dont exist and impossible… However, Humanoids may probably exist and there is a possibility…. most of the tetra pods from Amphibians to Mammals are evolved for terrestrial(land) habitat, but we can still see tht Dolphins, Whales etc. are mammals belonging to cow family, are aquatic…
Similarly, early humans living in a particular area, possibly might have suffered drought, famine or terrible climatic conditions which forced them or made them like sea. They might probably started hunting the sea creatrures. They eventually might possibly liked the sea more and started being in sea which might possibly made them evolve to humanoids(like developing tail by fusion of legs, and hands to fin like structures for swimming etc.)

We in Africa especially Nigeria believe they do exist. I remember the day we were travelling I was still little but I remember it like yesterday, we were meant to go to a place by sea and this was about 3.00 am. My uncle and mum saw it but I only heard the sound of it jump into the water because I was not looking towards that direction. I heard stories too of how people had seen them. Nassau LHA-4 in Norforlk and Portsmouth, VA. and I probably went to sea more times in my 1 1/2 yr tenture with taht ship than most fisherman doing it for a career does, and trust me when I say….the military is the one full of it. Tons of trash disposed of daily thats non-biodegradable into the ocean, "testing equipment" in open ocean waters, and there are unexplainable things you see doing "watches" that you wouldn't dare report. Been there, done that.

I joined the Navy when I was 17 and was stationed on the U.S.S. Nassau in Norfolk, VA. between 1991-93. I went out to sea, the Mid-Atlantic, parts of the Carribean and alot of other areas, and trust me when I say, you will see alot of things being on ocean/sea watch that you will never disclose. I addition, the Navy does ALOT of things benouced to the ordinary public, such as dumping tons of trash per day in the ocean and "testing equipment", that would and should be outlawed.
People should want to know. I do! I do not trust our levels of gov…they are withholding many secrets. People need to start thinking out of their small-mind boxes and start educating and grow up. Im pretty open to mermaids being real. The ocean is a massive place and it’s not even close to fully explored yet, so by that, anything is possible. However, I seriously doubt this story is true. The Obama part really did it for me.
I personally beleive in mermaids, but they are not fully in our physical plane, so thats why we dont see them so readily.. but… this report made here… well it doesnt seem to have any backing. Unfortunately the same evolutionary processes that may have made aquatic humanoids possible, is the same process which has caused an entire culture of land based humans to abandon the sciences for social media. Put simply, do not state what is or is not fact unless you yourself have access to the many thousands of artifacts, samples, and footage compiled by thousands of research scientists worldwide. I do agree that the government does often keep information from the public because they are not intelligent or open-minded enough to handle it. HOWEVER, coming from a clearly scientific perspective… the very idea that there could be HUMANS living in deep depths of the ocean, would not make them very human at all would it? In order to survive that deep in the ocean there must be many physiological adaptations that allow you to survive the low amounts of oxygen, extremely dark environment, and high pressure. You would also probably need more than 46 chromosomes. I'm not saying that mermaids son't exist, but the existence of a HALF human, half fish creature is a bit ridiculous…mainly because the working physiological definition of a HUMAN BEING would have to be altered. There may be mermaids, but they probably aren't as "human" as we would like.

I agree with vanity. People need to open up their minds. I'm sure there are tons more that we have not discovered in the ocean. I don't think we covered all of it. And in an unexplored ocean, I wouldn't completely disregard the existence of mermaids.
At the same time I am insanely angry at the government (more so than I already am). By holding 7 mermaids captive, we just destroyed any relationship we could have had right then and there. Humans and mermaids could have had an understanding of each other in the long run, but now that the government took the mermaids captive that's probably a slim chance. We need to try to make peace with them not make them hate us and scare them off.

It is absolutely amazing…the final video captures an intelligent aquadic creature that would give proof to the mermaid theory. It gives new questions and thought provoking answers…what is there story…what is this animals history…a clip shot from a robotic camera at the bottom of an oil derrik shows a fish being speared and then gone after an animal swims by. So they are smart enough to use tools…and even smarter to stay away from humans.

Mermaids, I have not done enough research to draw an informed conclusion, but I agree that our government knows much more about many things that they not only do not tell us but go to great lengths to obscure these facts.
There is some crazy stuff at the bottom of the ocean, but it says at the end of the video that the only thing fact about the documentation was the navy sonar tests and the "bloop"or whatever. Don't change all of your views after one video, do your research first. Most of the people in the documentation were actors anyway.

Dan while I believe in the possibility of creatures along the lines of what is seen in the Animal Planet and Discovery shows, the shows themselves were simply a fictional imagining of what could be possible. The footage is nothing more than special effects.
I truly do want to believe but nothing that has been shown is from common people. It is only shown through this mockumentary. None of the footage making the rounds came out until after the Mermaids: The Body Found episode. That should tell you right there that this was all just for fun and nothing more. They even tell you during the show that it is purely fictional. People should not be disappointed though. It is a call for us to observe our world more closely and have an open mind. There is no telling what we may discover in the future. Facts can be stranger than fiction.

The "documentary" was really quite fascinating. I am not sure if they were trying to pass it off as facts or not but to me it was fairly easy to feel that it was just entertainment. People are going to believe what they want to believe regardless of the facts. I enjoyed the show and my imagination wandered and calculated the vastness of all that there is and the possibility that we are not alone. The mermaid pictures above remind me of reincarnation, nobody was ever just a grasshopper in a past life just kings and queens. It was fun and the models above are just that models a little to thin for my taste but I guess that is the American ideal, but that is a whole other story.

I watched both last night when the ‘mermaids: the new evidence’ aired. And I’m starting to believe. It is a docufiction they say, that’s because there isn’t enough valid and sustancial evidence to verify it as a fact, hence its fiction. Still just theory.
The Dr from the first documentary who is also in the second, newer one that just released, wouldn’t say for sure the existence of mermaids. They interviewer tried to get him to say it but he said he’ll leave it to us to decide. But at the end, when they show the last video from the Icelandic Dr, the NOAA Dr wants to rewatch his footage Cuz its so good. He than goes on to say, for the first definat time, you got it. That’s them, you got It. Congradulations..
The Icelandic Dr was nice enough to say that the NOAA Drs were part of it. They helped and he thanked him back..

If you believe theories scientists debate over, there is no factual evidence we came from primate. While it is a fact we came from water. So since the oceans are as unexplored as space and our brain, (about 6%) Who can say with certainly that some of our ancient ancestors choose to stay in water ? While some went on land ? I hate to burst everyone's bubble, but that entire show you think is real is a documented fake. Even the maker of the show admits its fictional. The New York Times did an article about this show, and the maker of the program talks about how he created fake scientists who present what looks like a documentary showing facts, but is actually Charlie Foley having fun and showing what could be. What he hopes might be. It is all a product of his imagination. He never intended for anyone to take it seriously as factual evidence. All you have to do is google mermaids and The New York Times article tells it all. The National Ocean Service website also says there has never been any evidence found for mermaids. In the end, the Animal Planet's program was just a fictional movie meant to entertain the masses. And that's all. If you want to go on believing in mermaids, that's your right. But just no there is not one shred of evidence for it. I think it's sad that the show was presented in the way it was in order to fool people. My Father in law told me apprx 40 years ago he was swimming in Jamaica. He's a indian Jamaican that he saw a Mermaid in the ocean and she was Brushing her hair with a Gold brush. and she look at him for 30 seconds and dive under the water. at first I didn't believe him ,but if you knew this man i'm not saying he's a pastor or anything like that ,but I can say he's a honost man after the way he was talking then I started believing in him. But, just think about it, it could happen. The ocean is so vast it's nearly impossible to know EVERY species in that water. There's new species of fish discovered every day. All those fish that weren't discovered until after they washed ashore after hurricane Katrina, even the giant squid was a myth and legend not long ago, but was depicted in old legends and cave drawings, and has been proved to be real. I know of a place in The Bahamas where mermaids hunt. I know this because I saw one at this particular place with my own eyes. I was never a believer of mermaids until this. I saw this when I was a teenager in high school. Naturally nobody beleived me back then but now i get phones calls from people who saw the documentary. They apologize and now ask me to take them to the place so they can capture one and claim the money offered. I am willing to take anybody to this place but not for free anymore! I am not asking anbod to beleive in mermaids but I know what i saw and described from I was younger and I never changed my story from then. I'm just glad it now coming to light and the people I grew up with now beleive what i saw and described.

I think that mermaids could be real, but they likely aren't as advanced, and all the 'evidence' in the show should be taken with a grain of salt. But it does make a few valid points: Mammals have gone back to the sea before, look at polar bears now. BTW: the thing with wild dolphins hunting with fisherman, that is actually real. it's pretty cool. Are mermaids real? Probably, anything is possible. This show, however, is just for fun.

For your information, we've only explored 5%-10% of our ocean's waters. We know more about what's on the moon than what's in our own Sea. So who says there couldn't be mermaids of some form? Most people can't believe in mermaids, fairies, gnomes, leprechauns and elves because as children we have been taught by society and it has been engraved in our brains that these things are make believe fairy tale….and to think that such thing existed in real life is very hard for the human brain to now somehow accept as being real. But, the fact is…all these things do exist. The brain has no way of understanding how they exist until it opens up to the possibility that we may have been taught wrong, or kept from the truth as children. Why wouldn't the Great Creater give mermaids and mermen authority over the ocean kingdom? He gave man and woman authority over the land. He gave us all a specific purpose. Those videos were too sophisticated to be faked. I don’t blame this new species for hiding so well. I mean if they are already being captured. The government has to destroy everything precious and beautiful in the world. We as humans cannot leave things to the unknown. mermaids are real they come in more forms than you think…. some have tail and some don't you can never actually tell if someone is a mermaid or not…. some live on land and have been studding how people and creatures react…. they can outsmart and outwit a human no problem… they speak all sorts of languages, even dead languages, and some that scientist haven't even figured out yet… mermaids are out there still but they have mostly been forced into hiding…. some sea caves use to be there home but they have had to evacuate due to humans research….

There is no real evidence of it, but it is quite possible that there is such a thing living in the ocean that we don’t understand or even know exists.
