LOS ANGELES — Now that the SF Giant fan is recovering, Bud Selig has decided to beat Frank McCourt senseless.
A day after Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig rejected a lucrative television deal for the Los Angeles Dodgers, tensions escalated between embattled Dodger owner Frank McCourt and Selig, who stated publicly that he wanted to “stick it to Frank McCourt.”
The rejection of the television deal was the latest point of contention between the two sides, since it puts the Dodgers in what McCourt’s lawyer, Robert Sacks, called “dire financial straits.”
Citing his broad powers to act in the best interests of baseball, Selig took control of the Dodgers’ day-to-day operations in April amid concerns about the team’s finances and security at Dodger Stadium after a San Francisco Giants fan was beaten into a coma in a stadium parking lot on Opening Day.
McCourt vowed to retain Dodger Stadium and related assets even if he loses the team. He said he would give Selig “some of what that Giant fan got.”
Selig and McCourt got into a screaming match at the offices of McCourt’s attorney and Selig “lost it” – he grabbed a baseball bat and began beating McCourt.
McCourt fought back, but Selig was “rabid,” according to one attorney in the room. McCourt was taken to Cedars Sinai Hospital and is in intensive care. He is in a light coma.
McCourt had also complained about Selig getting in the middle of his ongoing divorce proceedings with his former wife, Jamie. McCourt had accused Selig of taking Jamie’s side in the divorce.

Selig’s rejection nullified the divorce settlement and left the Dodgers strapped for cash with the June 30 payroll deadline approaching.
Sacks said McCourt contacted Selig immediately after reaching the divorce settlement to request a meeting to explain the deal and offer to adjust it to satisfy Selig’s demands. He said neither Selig nor his underlings responded to the request until issuing the letter rejecting the media deal Monday afternoon.
Selig does not plan on visiting McCourt in the hospital.
