A moderate earthquake at The Geysers rattled northern Sonoma County.
The magnitude 4.5 quake occurred around 6:20 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Service. The epicenter was located about one mile northwest of The Geysers.
Sheriff’s dispatchers in Sonoma and Lake Counties said they had not received any distress calls connected to the quake.
Police in Santa Rosa, about 26 miles south of the quake’s epicenter, also said they had received no calls.

The temblor was larger than most of the quakes that regularly hit the area. It was followed by 40 small quakes over the next two hours, all but three under magnitude 2.0.
Some residents around The Geysers and Cobb Mountain have argued that injection of wastewater into The Geysers steamfields and harvesting of steam for power generation has increased seismic activity in the area.
