RALEIGH, N.C. – The Apocalypse didn’t happen in 2011 but Harold Camping has confirmed that it will happen – October 21, 2012.
May 21st, 2012 has come and gone. The Rapture is over. Now the dread can begin because on October 21st, 2012… all of us that have been Left Behind, will die.
As crestfallen followers of a California preacher who foresaw the world’s end strained to find meaning in their lives, Harold Camping revised his apocalyptic prophecy Monday, saying he was off by five months and the Earth actually will be obliterated on Oct. 21.
Here’s a recap of how we got here:
Marie Exley would have liked to start a family. Instead, the 32-year-old Army veteran has less than two months left on the planet and she is going to spend her time spreading the word: Judgment Day is almost here.
Exley is part of a movement of Christians loosely organized by radio broadcasts and websites, independent of churches and convinced by their reading of the Bible that the end of the world will begin May 21, 2012.
Technically, May 21st was Judgment Day, or The Rapture, so the world won’t end that day, it’s just the beginning of the end… But, don’t worry, it will end VERY soon after. Probably by October 21st of this year – at the latest.
To get the word out, they’re using billboards and bus stop benches, traveling caravans of RVs and volunteers passing out pamphlets on street corners. Cities from Bridgeport, Conn., to Little Rock, Ark., now have billboards with the ominous message, and mission groups are traveling through Latin America and Africa to spread the news outside the U.S.
“A lot of people might think, ‘The end’s coming, let’s go party, let’s drink and have multiple sex partners” said Exley, a veteran of two deployments in Iraq. “But we’re commanded by God to warn people. I wish I could just be like everybody else, but it’s so much better to know that when the end comes, you’ll be safe.”
Last August, Exley left her home in Colorado Springs, Colo., to work with Oakland, Calif.-based Family Radio Worldwide, the independent Christian ministry whose leader, Harold Camping, has calculated the May 21 date based on his reading of the Bible.
Her husband left for Vegas to drink and spend his life savings on prostitutes.
Exley, in the meantime, is organizing traveling columns of RVs carrying the message from city to city, a logistics challenge that her military experience has helped solve. The vehicles are scheduled to be in five North Carolina cities between now and the second week of January, but Exley will shortly be gone: overseas, where she hopes to eventually make it back to Iraq.
“I don’t really have plans to come back,” she said. “Time is short.”
Not everyone who’s heard Camping’s message is taking such a dramatic step. They’re remaining in their day-to-day lives, but helping publicize the prophecy in other ways. Allison Warden, of Raleigh, has been helping organize a campaign using billboards, post cards and other media in cities across the U.S. through a website, We Can Know.
The 29-year-old payroll clerk laughs when asked about reactions to the message, which is plastered all over her car.
“It’s definitely against the grain, I know that,” she said. “We’re hoping people won’t take our word for it, or Harold Camping’s word for it. We’re hoping that people will search the scriptures for themselves.”
Camping, 89, believes the Bible essentially functions as a cosmic calendar explaining exactly when various prophecies will be fulfilled. But he’s 89, so he’s not so worried about the world ending. He’s already done all the living he wants to do.
The retired civil engineer said all his calculations come from close readings of the Bible, but that external events like the foundation of the state of Israel in 1948 are signs confirming the date.
“Beyond the shadow of a doubt, May 21 will be the date of the Rapture and the day of judgment,” he said.
The doctrine known as the Rapture teaches that believers will be taken up to heaven, while everyone else will remain on earth for a period of torment, concluding with the end of time. Camping believes that will happen in October.
“If May 21 passes and I’m still here, that means I wasn’t saved and I will be dead on October 21st. Does that mean God’s word is inaccurate or untrue? Not at all,” Warden said.
The belief that Christ will return to earth and bring an end to history has been a basic element of Christian belief since the first century. The Book of Revelation, which comes last in the New Testatment, describes this conclusion in vivid language that has inspired Christians for centuries.
Few churches are willing to set a date for the end of the world, heeding Jesus’ words in the gospels of Mark and Matthew that no one can know the day or hour it will happen. Predictions like Camping’s, though, aren’t new. One of the most famous in history was by the Baptist leader William Miller,who predicted the end for Oct. 22, 1844, which came to be known as the Great Disappointment among his followers, some of whom subsequently founded the Seventh Day Adventist church.
Ron Hardeski of Bayonne, New Jersey also predicted the world would end on February 27th, 2004 – his wife’s 50th birthday. The world didn’t end, so Ron beat his wife to death with a Bible. He’s serving a life sentence.
“In the U.S., there is still a significant population, mostly Protestant, who look at the Bible as kind of a puzzle, and the puzzle is God’s word and it’s predicting when the end times will come,” said Catherine Wessinger, a professor at Loyola University in New Orleans who studies millennialism, the belief in pending apocalypse.
“A lot of times these prophecies gain traction when difficulties are happening in society,” she said. “Right now, there’s a lot of insecurity, and this is a promise that says it’s not all random, it’s part of God’s plan.”
Past predictions that failed to come true don’t have any bearing on the current calculation, believers maintain.
“It would be like telling the Wright brothers that every other attempt to fly has failed, so you shouldn’t even try,” said Chris McCann, who works with Bible Fellowship, one of the groups spreading the message.
“If you want to say we’re crazy, go ahead,” she said. “But when you’re dead on May 21st (or soon after), you’ll know we were right. And you’ll thank us.”

In the Old Testament times if a Prophet prophesied about something and it did not come to pass that person was labeled a false prophet and was killed. If this turns out to be false which I would say is a very good chance can we label this person a false prophet? The Bible plainly states that no one knows the hour or the day of his coming.

The Mayans never said anything about a judgement day. They most likely ended their calender on December 21 because that is when they would have predicted that the sun would be in alignment with the center of the galaxy. This galactic eclipse only happens every 31 million years, and because the calendars were made from using lunar and solar alignments, the Mayans probably found it convenient to end the calendar on that day.
I can't wait til 12/22/12 gets here and everyone can stop worrying about the Mayans.

"1994" was the title of Harold Camping's book which predicted the Rapture in that year
based upon his Biblical calculations of times and dates. Of course, the predicted event never happened, and Camping will be wrong about this new date as well. After it doesn't happen, Camping will rationalize his errors with some explanation like he didn't take into account some missing factors, or that God has delayed to give sinners more time to repent. False prophets always have a way out of their mistaken predictions.
n his book 1994? with a question mark he stated that it could also be 2011 because 1994 may not be complete that is why he had the question mark. Also consider the state of the world today compared with 1994.
How is it that so many people look at the bible and believe that what was written actually happened when christians say it did. When really researching the subject, extremely similar and even mirror images of the bibles story have been told thousands of years prior to "jesus". Ancients stated a man born on what is now christmas was born of a virgin. Is it then safe to say this jesus story was copied from much older texts and beliefs?

Many people read the bible and many people after reading it has different prospectives of what they just read. Although I beleive in God and I believe the end is not far.. I do not believe NO MAN KNOWS THE HOUR, TIME, NOR DATE OF THE END. I beleive that when God knew that people would come up with there own interptations of revlations, and that's why he said no man will no the date or time. God is his own person and no one will know when he decides to end what we wall know as earth. I beleive that everyday we should live like the last day and try to walk and talk with him. I agree 100% of what you're saying. God created us,gave us free will,we believe what we want to believe,but the bottom line is, he is the one that make the final call. Predictions come from our free will to believe if thing is going to happen…or not. Therefore, like you said, we should live our lives like it is the last day and try to walk and talk with him and get to know him as much as possible.
And then how is the rapture and judgment day gone be on the same day? God comes and get his true followers.. only there clothes will be left behind…. Sounds a lot like a Jehovah's Witness prophecy of the 1980s. Every year they prophesied the end of the world and it didn't happen. I expect to see 2020 on this Earth, unless a wormhole opens up and dumps me on a paralell Earth! 🙂

I totally agree with you. It says that in the Bible. My 18yr old nephew totally believes it because his mom, my sister, told him about it and she should know better. I wouldn't have even known about it had he not posted it on his facebook page. Not even the angels in heaven will know the day or hour. People have been predicting it as long as i can remember and i'm 44 now. Can you say "cult"? is what i told my nephew.

In Islam, the Prophet Muhammad said, (stretching his first and middle finger and placing them together, " Doomsday as like my first and middle fingers – close by" Now its over 1400 years has elapsed and the sun still rises the next day – meaning that Doomsday is still not here yet.

Remember Camping is not selling anything on the radio to make money. Family radio was always free to the listerners.

If the end comes, he is off and if the end does not come he is off. He is doing this because he truly believes God is using him for this message. What does he have to gain? I don;t have the kind of courage he has. Just think what he is putting out there.
I remember the professors in Seminary telling us that the Genelogies in the Bible are only important to trace the line of the prophets. They discounted the actually life spans. Think of it, It would take an engineer to learn the significance of the numbers so God could give us a warning of the actually end.
Whether he is right of wrong we will know it in less than 4 months.
But, you have to ask yourself, look at the state of the world. That is more scary than judgment day. What the heck is going to happen to us if May 21, 2011 does not happen.

If you believe the above article, ask yourself, "did I graduate with a college degree?", then look in the mirror and see if you are are could stand to lose a few. How do you figure that 200 million people are to be raptured? The bible says Matt 7 13-14 Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life and there are few who find it. It also says in Romans chapt. 8 to be carnal is death. All people are carnal and VERY FEW will find the way. Camping is a false prophet. He predicted the end a few times and it did not happen. Det . chapt 13 and 18 tells us not to listen to prophets who are wrong and that we are to walk after the Lord.

I used to work at a nursing home and i remember an old women telling me that people were saying the world was going to end when she was a little girl.. So who really knows and why do you want spend your life worrying about when its going to be? Ok, do people really believe this to be true? No one knows the end of the world or when it will come except for God. Not even the angels. I think it's silly that everyone is panicking the way they are, first of all. These people can spread the message to be saved, and evangelize, but they should be doing that regardless of if the world is almost about to end. It's our mission as Christians to proclaim the good news. But only God can change their hearts. If they looked deeper into the scriptures instead of relying on their own knowledge, they would be able to see that there is no way to be able to tell when the world is ending, only God knows that and He will definitely reveal it to us when it is His time, not ours.

Firstly, I do want to point out that I am a believer in the teachings of Jesus of Nazerath. I am a believer in the Angels of God. Actually in 1994 he did not say that he was sure. He actually wrote a book called 1994? Notice the question mark. He also mentioned in the book 1994? multiple times that he may be wrong and that the other date that actually would be the most probable would be 2011. So here we are, and the evidence is staggering. Now the world could very well end on May 21. A plague could wipe out humanity, an asteroid could collide with the Earth, World War III could start. It could also end tomorrow or a hundred years from now. If enough people make predictions, someone is bound to get lucky. It’s like winning the lottery. Although the odds are millions to one, if enough people enter the lottery, someone is bound to guess right. Now if the world ends exactly as described by Camping with a rapture and with a massive earth quake killing millions of people on May 21, then I would be impressed.

I am saddened by the fact that money is being spent telling the world the end is near, money that could have been better spent feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, healing the sick. But then again, this is Christ like behavior which seems to be lacking in Camping’s ministry. It’s even sadder that people will take this as an excuse to leave their jobs, family, career, or just stop living life in the false belief that the world will end soon so why bother continuing on. I’ve once heard it said that if you were ever arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you. In Harold Camping’s case the evidence is lacking.
For those of you might be disappointed that the world doesn’t end on May 21, don’t worry. If we’re still around after May 21, there’s still Dec. of 2012 and other future end of the world predictions. Someone is bound to get lucky and guess right.

While I believe that there are signs that can tell us that Christ's return is near, I don't think that it does any good to use a specific date. People need to realize that the "May 21" theory is the theory of a small group of people – that's not what Christians believe on the whole. My concern is that this will be one more thing that is used to discredit my beliefs as a Christian.
I will not lose my belief in Jesus if the May 21 is not Judgment Day.

How can you try and attack someone's credibility and tell us what the Bible says when you can't even quote the verse correctly? The phrase "nor the son" is not in Matthew 24:36. You obviously haven't even researched this enough to even quote one verse correctly, and at the same time you are trying to say that this isn't true. The word son is found is Mark 13. But the fact that you are so obsessed with this phrase "nor the son" is a huge red flag. You must believe that the verse in Mark 13 is saying that the son is Jesus Christ. Heres what I think and you may curse me and or whatever. I believe that one
lifes to short to worry about end times. You can die today so stop worrying about tomorrow and make the best out of each moment u have. Be thankful u were giving another day with those u love. I am not afrade,I personally have done nothing that I consider evil nor unforgiveable. I however am shakey in my beliefs. I believe the lord chooses the people for their goodness not just their belief in him. He gave us free will to do as we wish, an in turn he may use that to see who does good and who does evil.
I believe in more then my religion says and teachs. As far as the bibles concerned, it was writen by human hands and human churchs. Humans make mistakes and they also use things to bring fear to others in order to control others and gain power. There may be some parts to the bible that were truely recorded correctly. But we will never know til the day we meet our lord. Each of us is allowed to believe what we want.
If may 21st comes and the "juidgement day" comes and nothing happens anywhere, then we will know that this was just a hoax. Ether that or we all are doomed, because we all have sined beyond repair. In Mark 13 when it says that the son doesn't know it IS NOT talking about Jesus. It can't be because like I said Jesus is Jehovah God. He knows the time, He knows everything. There IS coming a day when Jehovah God will rapture His church, but the Bible (God's Word) says that no one will know when that will be. So anyone who is out there saying that they know the exact time is making it up. God does give us signs of things that will be going on in the last days, but God's Word says even the angels in Heaven don't know exactly when that trumpet will sound. By the way, only saved people will hear that trumpet. With that being said, Just as God sent judgement through a flood because of the sins in this world, He will once again send judgement through fire for the sins of man. Only Noah and his family were spared in the flood because they were the only ones who BELIEVED God. So too, only those who have believed in the Son of God will be raptured and spared the final judgement. I know many of you don't believe this, but when that day comes and all of us Christians have disappeared, your judgement will begin 3 1/2 yrs. later. The ONLY way to escape this second judgement is to believe that Jesus is Who He said He is and that He came to this earth to offer Himself as payment for our sins.
And by the way, luck has nothing to do with escaping God's judgement – only what you choose to do with Jesus (accept Him or reject Him).
I think that we are in our final days because you see all of the lyrics in songs and vidoes becoming more crazy as the days go long. Personally, I am 24 and I feel like sometime in my life the end will come; however, I truly do not believe its going to be this year! Personally i believe no one knows when the world is going to end this is not the first time someone predicted the world ending. Ive been hearing that the world is going to end since ive been 8 and I'm 21 now ! THERES NO TIME FOR GOD the world can end 2 years from now or 5 or 7 or even 10 no one knows ! Jesus was pretty clear on the judgment that "NO ONE KNOW THE DAY OR HOUR"! and "WILL COME LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT" so what we should be preparing for is not the Pre-Tribulation "Rapture" which is a non biblical teaching but rather for our own personal Judgment day. Harold Camping does not, will not, and cannot know the time of Christ's Return. Jesus could return as you're reading the third sentence of my comment. Not even Jesus knows when it's time to come back. At some point, God will just tell Jesus it's time, and Jesus will return. Did you know that Camping believes in Annihilationism? That is the belief that sinners are only destroyed, not sent to Hell. If Camping is Christian and has read the Bible, he should know, there is a Hell.

To everyone who is believing this stuff about the world ending on May 21st, I have these few things to say…
1 – Harold Camping, the "Raido Host", has made an end of the world theory based off of the information he obtained from the bible before. That theory stated that the world was going to end back in September of 1994. This means that his previous theory was wrong, and that we shouldn't take him too seriously.
2 – I followed all of the information that he posted to say that the world will end on the 21st, and I can honestly say that his math is off…According to his theory, we have a 7,000 year grace period from 4,990 B.C. Ok, now here's the math…
4,990 – 7,000 = -3,990
-3,990 + 33 (The amount of years Jesus was alive) = -3,957
Now change it from a negative to a positive and we get 3,957 A.D.
Thinking logically we can also realize that this is the same year that all the radiation from Chernobyl & Japan's nuclear crisis will have spread across the globe. And as we have all heard, "Radiation feels like fire to the human body." This can be translated to the cleansing by fire. Which would prove both science and religion correct.
Longer story shortened, "The world will one day end, but it will not be during our time. Instead it will likely be in, or around the year 3,957 A.D. due to our own meddling in radiation."

I have great news for everyone. The world will not end on May 21, 2011. I am a Christian and I do read my Bible, therefore, I know that no man knows when the world will end. You are to watch and pray and live each day happy and content. If you are affraid, you can find comfort in knowing that we have eternal life after this one. I don't read my bible on a daily basis nor do I hardly ever because I fond it hard to understand, but I do know in the bible it clearly states no man, nor the angels above know the time, the day, or the hour that our savor will come back to earth clearly I think he is here every day with us, watching, protecting, and doing for us as we live for him, I believe in the words FAlSE PROPHETS who preach the gospel, but clearly have no idea what's going on and when people are trying to predict the day of the Lords return in ways that's trying to be above God if he wanted us to know it would be one man it would be all of us because we are all his children, he wants us to live every day like its our last and have strong faith in him seeing isn't believing.. You just have to know he's there. And on another note he is coming, but why worry about it in think it will be a great day, but as far as may 21 2011 if that's the day so be it, but I just don't see that happening.

I can clearly see that there are signs. The bible describes it as birthing pains. The earth is going through some of the pain with earth quakes, sunami's, flooding, economic unstability. These are mere signs that everyone does need to get their lives in order. However, the bible states as I believe that the temple will be re-built prior to the end. As far as I know the temple is not even under contruction yet. I understand that some garments have been purchased to place in the temple, but again it has not been built yet. Hopefully we watch and be not afraid, as Christ said, "I am with you even until the end of the world" God bless all.

No one on this Earth knows what the future holds, whether it's one minute, one day or 1000 years into the future. What kind of arrogant person thinks that they can make that kind of prediction? I have absolutely no patience for people like this. People who spend their time spouting off messages and prophecies about the end of the world, accomplishing nothing more than terror and worry. I believe in God. Although I'm not a practicing Christian, I believe that there is some sort of high power in our world—however, I don't think for a second that that higher power would ever tell some attention-hungry man like Camping to "spread the word" about the impending Rapture and Apocalypse. I don't believe in this prediction at all, but I can't deny that I now have it in my head and will worry about it until I make myself sick. What about all of the poor people that have fallen victim to this and are blasting through life savings and selling their homes? Is someone going to sue Camping and Family Radio for false advertising causing mass hysteria?

Obviously, this Saturday is an unlikely day for the end of the world, just as the end of the current Mayan calendar far fetched. I mean, when the end of my calendar occurs every year on December 31st, I just put up a new one for the next year.
But, whether your concern is with Armageddon, Rapture, Asteroids, War or even Zombies, it is prudent to still be prepared. Everyday, people around the world are faced with life threatening and life changing events. For them, it is the end of the world, no matter how local or persona it may be.
People should prepare for the worst by storing food for up to a year or more, putting together bug out

I've been reading a book called " Fallen Angels among us." In what I read and inturpied. This is just another dooms day prophesy only too bring fear and panic among people. God loves every one of us. There is not a single one of us God does not love. Lets not fall into the trap of bringing people in by fear. God would have us bring his people back with love. Fear leads to misunderstanding what is really out there. I don't believe Gods coming back I know He's already here, waiting for us too come too Him. This is stupid. I am a Christian, and if you read the Bible, God's Word, with nothing added or taken away, it says that no one but the Father knows when the end will come. Even the angels don't know. Why can't people just believe the Bible for what it says? And if the angels don't know, then how does anyone think that we poor, sinful, pitiful, incompetent(without Christ, at least) humans think we can figure it out? All I know is that all the things in Revelation are coming true, so the world will probably end sometime within the next few hundred years, and I am only guessing. No. The Rapture (which of the 3 Christian apocalypse scenarios that scholars accept based on scripture is the least likely to actually happen, though the most popular amongst common folk), would be followed by 7 years if Tribulation on Earth. The Bible puts a lot of focus on the Jews converting to Christianity after seeing the second coming, but also the nonbelievers and unfaithful could save themselves as well if they choose to follow Him. It is only after a person would receive the mark of the beast that they would reach the point of no return on Earth. But like I said earlier, the Rapture is the least likely Christian end of the world scenario.

I do agree with one thing this camping guy said about the bible giving dates for things to happen, it has (if you study and look for it) given dates for the rise and fall of kingdoms and many other things but it does not tell anywhere when the end will be. If it is supposed to happen at 6 pm in every timezone then why does the bible tell us that the dead in Christ rise first and all that are left alive will be caught up in the sky together to meet Christ? If it happens at 6pm in every timezone then everyone's goin at different times not all together like the bible states. Im glad people read their bibles but they must not be praying for the Holy Spirit to guide them when they do. The things they claim are just so contradictory to Gods word i have to wonder if they have the same bible as me!

This is really really sad… not because I believe that the world will end tomorrow, but because even after the "Apocalyptic Planetary Alignment of 1998" and "Y2K", people still buy this end-of-the-world things. I know the Lord WILL return, I don't know the day nor the time, but I DO know it will happen. My entire faith is based upon that. One things for sure…I believe in God with all my heart and soul!!! I was amazed when a co-worker of mine, who truely believes in God herself came & told me that there was a story out about everyone saying that May 21st is suppose to be the day God comes to end the world. Let me just say this…as a believer in God, the Son, & Holy Ghost, no man, technology, scientist will ever know when the world will end. The only thing I know is, that Jesus was once on this earth and will once again come to take his people with him. When that day comes, I will definitely be prepared and willing to go with my Savior Jesus Christ. I can't say much for those who don't believe in God, but to just pray for you and hope that one day, before he comes again, that you will ask for forgiveness and repent not for yourself, but those who you know that don't believe as well. So, if the day comes tomorrow, tonight, next week, I hope we are all ready for judgement day!!! And only God knows when he will judge us all!! There's a big gaping hole in the Ozone layer and global warming is happening, but no one seems to "believe" in that or care… People pollute the world all day, every day.
