OSAKA- Robot girlfriends are on sale now in Japan. Buy two for the price of one!
The Japanese roboticist Hiroshi Ishiguro, from the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory, has created a small surrogate girlfriend for men (and women). The Japanese roboticist unveiled his creation in April, but it is now on sale everywhere across Japan in Seiyu (Japan’s Wal-Mart).
The android was originally called Geminoid F, but Ishiguro renamed her Chizuko (which means “the child of a thousand storks”) and is also the name of Ishiguro’s first girlfriend who dumped him for a five-foot tall accountant. Ishiguro programmed Chizuko to call him, “Stud.”
Ishiguro teamed up with Kokoro Co., Ltd. to create the realistic-looking female android says she was modeled after a woman in her twenties. She has long black hair, soft silicone skin, and a set of lifelike teeth that allow her to produce a natural smile. Here’s Chizuko with her model:
When female researchers at Intelligent Robotics Laboratory asked Ishiguro why he didn’t make the female android a thirty-something woman (especially considering Ishiguro is in his late 40s) Ishiguro said, “anybody want some tea?”
Chizuko is friendly, kind, always smiling and only talks when she is asked a question by her “partner” (man or woman). Ishiguro said, “She’d make a great wife for anybody. Many Japanese parents are buying them for their sons.”
The efficient design makes Chizuko easy to produce. She is on sale at Seiyu for 5 million yen (about $50,000) each. But for this week – and this week only – you can buy one and get one free. “If you consider how much you spend on a girlfriend over time, it’s a real bargain,” Ishiguro said.
At a press conference in Osaka, Chizuko spoke to reporters. “It feels great to be alive. Anybody want a date?”
No doubt it will take time for people to get used to robot girlfriends, but Ishiguro assures everyone that it they are a viable product that he expects to be as big as the iPad. “We’re neurologically hardwired to react to these androids as though they’re human beings. Once you Chizuko walking across a room in her little black dress, you won’t be able to tell the difference between Chizuko and a human female.”
The question on everyone’s mind: can Chizuko have sex? A grinning Ishiguro said, “You’ll have to buy one and see.”
Ishiguro dispelled rumors that he married Chizuko last week are false. Ishiguro is not a one- android man, he owns twelve of the female androids. “One for each room,” he said.
The female androids will go on sale at Wal-Mart in the U.S. on September 1st. As per Maria’s question below… Yes, there will be a male version on sale in December. So save up girls!

Yes, there will be boyfriends. WWN has learned that they will go on sale starting in December. Toyo is his name (but you can change all you want). He doesn’t talk much though.
I think the robot boyfriends are just rebuilt robot girlfriends.

Look at this, we are already in the Android age! They are too expensive, though, at $50,000. And, I would not want a female but a male one….of course. Also, let them get the glitches out and then buy them at a cheaper price. Once they come up with a newer model, this model's price will go down. It looks very lifelike.
The price should come down with more manufacturers and models. Also, there most certainly would be multiple female models, considering the profit to be made from sales volume.

if anyone is parasitic it is the males, remember that males are the ones MOSTLY carrying the diseases, like AIDS, 70-80 percent of std carriers are males, so a clean male looking for a real female is has better chances of her being disease free, however i cant say the same for females looking for clean std-free males

I would think so, as silicone and stainless steel are impervious to water as well as many types of plastics and ceramics.

Could be. I for one would put a self destruct chip in them all so that the ID (eyeball, voice command of verifiable humans) would override any wrong thinking or actions if they would not stop.
Could they use the technology behind the robofriend to clean up the damaged nuke plant?
They probably could. It's not human, so if it gets radiation it can still go on. It also never "dies."

Can this android do chores and move around? like be a housewife, doing dishes vacuuming, sweeping, etc? can this android do basic regular functions of a human? How about outdoors, can this android go outside? How about learning new skills, can this android learn and follow instructions?

50,000 dollars for this model is actually very expensive, the silicon skill is a bad idea they need a cellular skin just like a human skin, and even human organs that can be cloned, like for example human hair to make androids more realistic and human like, they would need to improve them with more technology so they can be more human realistic until they are not possible to be recognize, the silicon skin just does not work for the androids, I would buy a model that would be more new but in the near future when women android are more sexy and intelligent, eventually they would need to also improve the eyes with a more advance bionic eyes and computer advance brain, I want an android woman for sure but I am waiting for a better model, it was a bad idea to release male android models, they should consider eliminate this models, because the idea was primary women androids for single male and handicap persons, they need to release future advance models in higher scale to be able to drop prices down and be more productive, they need to produce them like cars and make dealers, man there gonna make millions of this.

rollers maybe magnetic so can stop or if on a metal underlayment on a yacht not roll out of controll but stay stable.
