WONDER WOMAN GETS A MAKEOVER

NEW YORK, NY – An iconic superhero just got a new makeover!
Wonder Woman is on the level of Superman and Batman. She might not have the big budget films on her resume, but she still carries the same recognition as her male counterparts. Wonder Woman, one of the most popular superheroes of all time, is getting a radical makeover.
The Amazon Princess has always been known for her blue shorts with white stars, a bold bustier and bright red boots just as Captain America always has his shield. For the masterminds behind Wonder Woman, the outfit needed some updating and starting with this month’s comic, the superhero vixen will start wearing pants.
A costume switch for an iconic comic hero just isn’t done on a whim. It is usually used to symbolize a massive storyline shakeup, a new creative team, and/or a desperate attempt for cultural relevance. The case with Wonder Woman lies in writer J. Michael Straczynski, who is taking over writing the comic.
“I wanted to toughen her up, give her a modern sensibility,” Straczynski commented on a DC Comics blog post.
Wonder Woman has been doing her thing for over 69 years. It was only a matter of time before she got a new look. She deserves a new wardrobe.
She will be losing the hot pants and wear tight blue pants instead. The famous bracelets are still around, but, according to Stranczynski, they’ll be more colorful, “with a script W on each of them that form WW when she holds them side by side … and if you get hit by one of them, it leaves a W mark.”
Her backstory will also be taking on some minor rearranging. The New York Times explains: “In the reimagining of her story, Wonder Woman, instead of growing up on Paradise Island with her mother, Queen Hippolyta, and her Amazon sisters, is smuggled out as a baby when unknown forces destroy her home and slaughter its inhabitants.”
As is the case with any changes to an iconic superhero, searches for Wonder Woman have skyrocketed. America loves it’s superheroes and changes are sometimes met with stern criticism or extreme delight. 69 years was a long time to wait, however.
