LOS ANGELES, CA – Music star, Akon, is thinking about an early retirement thanks to his ace up his sleeve – Lady Gaga!
Akon’s career is nothing to laugh at. He’s a Grammy-nominated R&B singer who has pumped out numerous hit singles and collaborated with a wide variety of musicians. Things went from good to great when Akon discovered mega superstar Lady Gaga.
Akon’s discovery, recognizing Gaga’s immense potential as an artist, was the equivalent of winning the lottery. “She’s pretty much retired me,” he said. “She was definitely a blessing. She came at the right moment. I’m glad I believed in her, boy. That goes to show you, if you believe in something strong enough, it will pay off.”
Akon founded his own record label, Kon Live Distribution, in 2006 and subsequently signed Lady Gaga to it in 2007. He had to do a little pleading with Interscope chairman, Jimmy Lovine, but nothing too serious.
“And I was like ‘Yo, I want to sign that right there. She needs to be under my umbrella,” Akon retells the story. “Jimmy was like ‘Yeah, whatever you want. Take her. Let’s get it done.’ And she blossomed into a super megastar, man.”
Akon certainly has an eye for talent and that eye of his has made a nice impact on his bank account.
