NEW YORK, NY – Grammy-winning rapper, Lil Wayne, has avoided the judge thanks to dental surgery.
Lil Wayne was scheduled for sentencing in a New York City gun case where he could face up to a year in jail. Lil Wayne pleaded guilty in October to a charge of attempted gun possession. The case stems from a police stop on his tour bus in 2007.
The rapper’s lawyer, Stacey Richman, informed the judge today that her client is suffering from a cracked tooth and needs to finish a string of dental procedures before he can go to jail. The procedure will take place on February 12 and Lil Wayne will need at most 10 days to recover. The presiding judge, Charles H. Solomon, pushed the sentencing date back to March 2.
The judge warned, “I don’t want this to get pushed back anymore. This is the last adjournment.” In the recent Rolling Stone magazine, Lil Wayne said in regards to going to jail, “This is Lil Wayne going to jail. Nobody can tell me what that’s like. I just say I’m looking forward to it.”
