At one point during the World Cup, Sara Carbonero was considered a villain to Spain. The attractive reporter is the girlfriend to Iker Casillas – Spain’s goalkeeper and captain – and was the scapegoat to Spain’s opening game loss to Switzerland. All that is history now that Spain is in utter jubilation after the country’s World Cup victory.
Carbonero usually covers many of the matches in which her boyfriend plays. She was able to snag a post-game interview with the goalie – can’t imagine how – and what developed was certainly not planned.
Casillas, overcome with emotion, started thanking the people most responsible for his achievement. After a second to catch his composure, Casillas thanks Carbonero and goes in for the kill. He gives her a passionate kiss and catches her way off guard. Carbonero’s cheeks turn redder than the color of Spain’s flag.
It was a moment of justification in the wake of ludicrous reports that she played any part in Spain’s loss. It was also a moment of incredible joy being able to share that with Casillas and knowing she helped him along the way. Although the moment was on live TV, it was certainly the icing on the cake.
