SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Controversy has arisen over a risque calendar featuring female members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

A calendar is being released for 2010, featuring “Hot Mormon Muffins”, 12 different Mormon mothers in questionable poses.

The creator, Chad Hardy, originally created “Men on a Mission” calendars, which displayed attractive male missionaries in their signature white shirts.

However, the controversy finally reached a head last year, when he lost both his church membership as well as his college diploma from church-owned Brigham Young University.

Hardy decided to move on to challenging the idea of what a stereotypical modern Mormon mother should be. “For Mormons, the most holy calling next to missionary work is motherhood,” said Hardy. “But they’re not all the subservient housewives that people think they are.”

The mothers in the calendar range in age from 26 to 53, and are stay-at-home moms, students and even dance instructors. One is a former Miss Utah and another is a breast cancer survivor.

Tami Roberts, Miss May, is a mother-of-three waitress, who confesses to having a few tattoos. After hearing about the Church’s discipline of Hardy, she decided to sign up for his women’s calendar.

She said of raising her daughters with Mormon values, “I also want them to be open, accepting of other people, know that everybody is not the same and that it’s OK to make your own choices.”

Church spokeswoman Kim Farah declined to comment on the new calendar.
