SCIENTISTS GROW SPERM IN LABORATORY

MUNICH – Scientists are able to grow sperm in a laboratory dish. Could this make men obsolete?

Some say that this development opens up the possibility of infertile men being able to father their own children rather than using donor sperm. Others say that now women can survive on the planet without men.

It started when researchers in Germany and Israel were able to grow mouse sperm from a few cells in a laboratory dish.

In a world first a team headed by Professor Roger Schott, at Muenster University in Germany, were able to grow sperm by using germ cells. These are the cells in testicles that are responsible for sperm production.

Scientists grew the sperm by surrounding the germ cells in a special compound called agar jelly to create an environment similar to that found in testicles.

Prof. Mahmoud Kessana, who also grew the sperm at Israel’s Ben Gurion University in Beersheba, said: “I believe it will eventually be possible to routinely grow human male sperm to order by extracting tissue containing germ cells from a man’s testicle and stimulating sperm production in the laboratory.”The findings of the sperm trial have been revealed in a major scientific journal published by Nature.

The scientists then began experiments to grow human sperm grown outside a man’s body and… it worked!

Alvin Hartgers, a leading NHS male infertility consultant, praised the breakthrough. “This is an amazing development that will revolutionize fertility treatment and allow every man to be a natural father. And if a woman doesn’t want a man in her life, but wants a baby… well, they can do that much easier now.”

Professor Stephen Sharpton, one of the UK’s top fertility scientists, based at Edinburgh University, who hopes to work on the project, said: “This is a significant step forward in the evolution of man.”

The problem of male infertility has grown over the last 50 years and has been matched by huge decrease in sperm counts in men. Some of this has been attributed to environmental factors such as pollution and female hormones appearing in plastic packaging.

Mr Sharpton, a urologist, said: “There are thousands of men – who are otherwise healthy – who can’t naturally father babies and rely on sperm donation. Now, they can come to my lab and get some sperm.”

Professor Huleihel said his team were now working ‘as quickly as possible’ to reproduce their success in mice to help infertile men.

The sperm production breakthrough is reported in the Asian Journal of Andrology this month.

Professor Kessana added: “We were able to produce viable sperm. The sperm appeared healthy and were not genetically damaged.

Professor Sharpe said: “What this research shows is that it will be possible to make human sperm outside the body. The germ cells just need the right environment. That’s the tricky part getting them to think they are in the testes

Mr Sharpton, who also treats infertile men at the private New Life Clinic, said: “Hundreds of millions have been poured into research into female infertility but research into male infertility attracted relatively little interest. We did it on a shoestring budget, but we did it.”

Human sperm grown in a laboratory will have to be licensed. And British and American governments are trying to figure out how to regulate sperm production.

But researchers like Professor Sharpton believes that this hurdle will be overcome quickly.

He said: “The main thing that would have to be proved is that the sperm was not genetically damaged and was the same as sperm produced in the testes. Similar checks are already carried out on eggs and embryos used in women’s fertility treatment.”

If scientists produced enough sperm in laboratories to create generations of humans, will men become less significant… go extinct?

PROSTITUTE METERS

BONN, GERMANY – Prostitutes in this city now have to “feed the meter” if they want to walk the streets.

The German city of Bonn introduced a parking meter for prostitutes Monday, requiring street sex workers to pay $8 in tax per night to carry on their trade.

Bonn is the first German city to introduce the meter system. It already taxes women working in brothels (and some wives working at home). City officials say the tax will raise $4 million annually from about 3,700 women in the trade.

Prostitutes will pay the fee by feeding coins into the meter and receive an automatically printed ticket, which they must show on demand to tax inspectors. No ticket, no selling your body for money.

Sex workers are only allowed on one street in the city.

Last year, authorities erected six parking bays, surrounded by wooden screens on three sides, permitting clients to meet prostitutes without being watched from other parked cars.

Like parking meters, the machines also tell users the times of day when a ticket is necessary: in this case between the hours of 8:15pm and 6am, Monday to Sunday.

There will be a new kind of “Meter Maid” walking around the streets of Bonn. Some member of the city council had the idea of hiring Meter Maids that not only enforce the Prostitute Meters, but also service citizens.

“Two jobs in one,” said Deputy Mayor, Hoff Mertz. ”We may also hire some Meter Men to ensure that the prostitutes are feeding the meters. If they are not… the Meter Men will impose fines.”

The city’s street prostitutes have already been limited to certain areas, following protests from local residents. Six designated, closed off parking spaces have been installed in one area near a brothel where customers can take prostitutes in their cars.

“This is an act of tax fairness,” she said. “Prostitutes in fixed establishments such as brothels and sauna clubs already pay tax.” She added that with many street prostitutes foreign born previous attempts to tax them had floundered on a widespread inability to comprehend a German income tax form.

Bonn is also considering installing Heroin Meters. Heroin dealers will have to “feed the meter” if they want to sell their product on the streets of Bonn.

Germany is always leading the way when it comes to prostitution and drugs.

GHOST NAZIS ATTACK ENGLAND!

LONDON – World War Two German bomber, from the 1940s, are once again dropping bombs on England!

Brits were shocked on Friday to see old Nazi bomber planes flying overhead again and – dropping bombs!

This fighter plane attack comes soon after British oceanographers found a The Dornier 17 in the sea just off the Kent coast, southeast England, in an area known as the Goodwin Sands.

The plane came to rest upside-down in 50 feet of water and has become partially visible from time to time as the sands retreated before being buried again.

Apparently, this aeronautical find, reawakened some Nazi fighter spirits. “It wasn’t long after we announced the discovery that we saw the Nazi planes overhead, dropping bombs!” said lead researcher Dr. Thomas Hillstrom of Kent.

The worst of it all for the Brits: these ghost pilots have no fear of dying. They’re already dead!

The Dornier 17, known as “the flying pencil,” dropped fifteen bombs on Dover last night. British anti-aircraft missiles tried to take the Nazi planes down, but were unsuccessful. The Dornier 17 was designed as a passenger plane in 1934 and was later converted for military use as a fast bomber, difficult to hit and theoretically able to outpace enemy fighter aircraft and anti-aircraft guns.

Six hundred Bits have already died in the latest bombing raid. “We were sitting around watching Peep Show when suddenly there was a bomb hitting our garage. It was quite unsettling.”

British Prime Minister Cameron Brown has called on Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany, to halt the bombing raids, but Merkel said she has no knowledge of the attack. “We don’t order ghost planes to drop bombs.”

Meanwhile, the Brits are planning to attack Berlin. Stay tuned…

KNUT DEAD

GERMANY – Knut the cute polar bear – is dead. Killed by aliens.

Knut the cute polar bear who went on public display for the first time at Berlin Zoo in March 2007 when he was a one-year-old has died. He was won over the hearts around the world with his innocent eyes staring out at the strange, unnatural world of his captivity.

He’s dead. Knut was found lying face down dead in the pool. Zoologists are not sure what the cause of death, but they suspect heart failure. But WWN learned that aliens killed Knut.

Knut’s life incorporated a multi-million-euro industry in Knut paraphernalia, a court battle over his ownership, calls for his death, and then for his castration, and an ongoing debate about the ethics of keeping big wild animals in confinement.

Knut died on Saturday afternoon at the age of four. In the wild he could have expected to live to 15 or 20, while captive polar bears are known to be capable of living twice that long, being freed from the constraints of hunger and the bitter Arctic climate.

John Malley, the leading expert on the U.N. Panel on Extraterrestrials examined the body of Knut and said that Knut had The Mark of the Alien on his paws. “Knut was clearly killed by an alien from Planet Zeeba.”

Knut flourished and was the first polar bear to be born and survive in the Berlin Zoo for more than 30 years. The cub appeared with Leonardo DiCaprio on the cover of Vanity Fair, courtesy of the photographer Annie Leibovitz. The German National Mint produced 25,000 silver coins in his honour, and his image appear on postage stamps and countless items of memorabilia.

Knut’s celebrity status was helped no doubt by his photogenic qualities but also by the public outcry that followed comments allegedly made by a German animal activist who had dared to suggest that Knut should have been put down rather than forced to live the degrading life of a domestic pet. Children stormed Berlin Zoo, holding up placards reading “Knut Must Live” and “We Love Knut”.

Malley said that he expects aliens to kill more polar bears that are being held in captivity. “Aliens do not approve of animals being held captive for the sole purpose of entertaining human beings. They are going to free the animals or kill them.”

GERMAN SINKHOLE

GERMANY - A giant sinkhole under a residential street opened up on Monday in central Germany.

The landslide happened in Schmalkalden, in central Germany on Monday November 1st. Residents were evacuated from 23 buildings. Nobody was injured. But now there’s a gigantic sinkhole in the middle of the neighborhood.

The cause of the landslide is yet unclear. But German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, told reporters today that she thinks it was caused by Gypsies that had been roaming around in the area over the weekend.

An aerial view shows a giant landslide under a street taking a car with it and leaving another car hanging over the edge. Inside the car, there were seven clowns and a two jugglers. German authorities think that local Gypsies thought that the circus performers were taking away some of their “business.”

The crater measures 30 by 40 meters, which is the exact measurements of a typical Gypsy compound. Recently, Merkel had announced to German citizens that “multiculturalism” had failed and was urging all Germans to unite in a love for Germany.

But the Roma Gypsies do not want to embrace German culture. They want to live in Germany and keep their traditions and cultures. “Why should we act like Germans, we don’t like Germans… unless they give us money, then we like them very much.”

Authorities are worried that other sinkholes may open up in other parts Schmalkalden. “Sometimes after a big sinkhole like this opens up, there are many other baby sinkholes that occur in the days and weeks to follow. We don’t want a sinkhole epidemic to start, so we are evacuating all the citizens of the town.”

Wow. That’s a big German hole.

HAIRLESS BEARS

BERLIN – Scientists are baffled over a group of bears who have lost their fur!

The bears live at a zoo in Leipzig, Germany. Dolores, and all the other female bears at the zoo, have seen almost all of their fur fall out!

Usually at this time in the season, the bears would be growing an even thicker coat for the winter. Some scientists believe that it is a genetic defect in the breed, which originates in South America.

The condition, which is causing rashes and inflammations on their skin, is also pulling in bigger crowds! Whatever is causing their fur loss does not appear to be affecting them in any other way.
