CAMDEN – The dazzling display of aurora light that happens every year over New Jersey – amazed skywatchers once again!

Every October, skywatchers travel from all over North America, Canada and Sweden and come to New Jersey to catch the most amazing display of aurora light.  And this year was no different.  ”It was real cool,” said Jersey housewife, Teresa Giudice.  ”I love lights and sky and color.  So, yeah it was nice.  Jersey is the best.”

Monday night (Oct. 24), the Jersey sky was painted with with striking green and even rare red hues.

The aurora display, also known as the northern lights, or the Jersey Lights, was touched off by a wave charged particles unleashed by a massive sun storm on Saturday, which took two days to reach Earth, according to the Space Weather Prediction Center operated by the National Weather Service and NOAA.

“These were the most vibrant I’ve ever seen,”  New Jersey skywatcher Sal Fiori of  Bayonne told WWN. “I was also able to see red with my naked eye, which I’ve never seen before either.  It blew my freakin’ mind.”

Governor Chris Christie missed the event because he was judging a cannoli eating contest in Sea Girt.  But he heard that it was beautiful.  ”Yeah, everything is beautiful in Jersey.   And no, I’m not running for President.  But maybe I am.”

Pulitzer Prize winning photographer Susan Begley of Morristown  expected a good aurora light show, but was surprised by the sheer brilliance of Monday night’s light show.

“I’d taken a few pics, went back to the car to change lenses, and when I looked up the sky was on fire,” Begley said. “To the north there was this huge curtain that sent beams overhead to a corona in which I had to turn to the south to photograph. That’s when I noticed the reds and pinks starting to happen. From there the lights were every which direction. It was hands down the best Jersey Lights I’ve ever seen.  I think I saw a double rainbow, too.”

“Hands down the most amazing northern lights display that I have ever witnessed,” said Chuck Bench of Red Bank. “It was like I was looking at heaven.”  Chuck’s wife later told WW that Chuck was asleep on the couch during the Jersey Lights.  ”He’s a slob,” she said.

There’s still time to catch some of this year’s Jersey Lights.   They should be visible for the rest of the month.

MISSISSIPPI DELTA -  On the 20th anniversary of his death, Stevie Ray Vaughan was seen at the Crossroads.  He can still play that guitar!

At the famed Crossroad in the Mississippi Delta a local boy was shocked to see the legendary blues guitarist, Stevie Ray Vaughan, playing his heart out.  “He looked like a ghost, but his music sound so real. I’ve never heard a guitarist play like that.  Either he was alive or I was in heaven,” said fourteen-year-old, Caleb Wilson.

Old blues musician Tommy Johnson describe the Crossroads this way:

“If you want to learn how to make songs yourself, you take your guitar and your go to where the road crosses that way, where a crossroads is. Get there be sure to get there just a little ‘ fore 12 that night so you know you’ll be there. You have your guitar and be playing a piece there by yourself…A big black man will walk up there and take your guitar and he’ll tune it. And then he’ll play a piece and hand it back to you. That’s the way I learned to play anything I want.”

Well, Caleb Wilson didn’t see a big black man, but he did see Stevie Ray Vaughan who walked up to him, gave him his guitar and said, “Son, go out there and play.  Music is what will save this world.”  Vaughan then showed Caleb a few blues chords.  Before he disappeared into the Crossroads, Vaughan told Caleb, “son, you are here on this earth to help people, help your brothers, your sisters, your friends, your enemies.  That’s what life is about:  helping each other, not hurting each other. “  Then Vaughan was gone.

Today is the twentieth anniversary of the death of the singer and blues guitar legend.  The Grammy-winner died in a helicopter crash Aug. 27, 1990. He is buried in his hometown of Oak Cliff, Texas on the outskirts of Dallas.  Jeff Castro, an Oak Cliff resident who co-founded an annual tribute motorcycle ride and concert that commemorates Vaughan’s birthday (October 3) has long been lobbying for a memorial.

According  to the Dallas Morning News, Castro approached the city about a statue and fountain in Kiest Park, where Vaughan hung out as a kid.  But Castro was turned town because there are other plans for a permanent collection of Stevie Ray Vaughan memorabilia.

A street in Dallas was going to be renamed in honor of Stevie Ray Vaughan, but instead the city chose to name the street Riverfront.  Vaughan was always proud of being from Oak Cliff, said a Vaughan biographer Craig Hopkins.  “Ever after he went to Austin.”

Caleb Wilson is a fan now… and in a couple of years, you’re going to hear another guitar legend emerge from the Mississippi Delta.   And maybe one day, you’ll be lucky enough to catch Stevie at the Crossroads…

MISSOULA, MT – Kim Jong Il was seen performing in the most unlikeliest of places.

The Triple Deuce, a rural bar just outside Missoula, was visited by the dictator of communist North Korea last Thursday. Kim Jong Il attended the weekly open mic night, playing an acoustic set of blues and country standards with a few songs he wrote about his time on the road.

In the past few months, Korean authorities have come under fire for covering for their missing leader.  News agencies and governments have been skeptical of the military’s excuses, especially after obviously faked photos were released by North Korea’s official news agency.

Pyongyang’s Minister of Truth stated via phone, “Of course Our Dear Leader is here! He wouldn’t gallivant around the United States for months at a time and never call.  Absurd! He’s here right now!”

When asked if Weekly World News could speak to Kim, the Minister replied, “Just one moment. Dearest Leader, there’s a phone call for- Oh, sorry, he’s too busy teaching orphans to read.  That’s our Glorious Leader!” and then promptly hung up.

Kim Jong Il played a fifteen minute set including “Walk the Line” by Johnny Cash, “Friends in Low Places” by Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You”, and songs he wrote titled “Sovereign Highway Rambler” and “Lonely at the Top of Mount Paektu”.

Crowds were unsure of how to react to the singing dictator.  Receiving mostly polite applause, he held back tears as he finished his final song and walked off the stage.  After paying for his two ginger ales, he left the bar.

The American government is unsure of what Kim Jong Il may be doing here or where he is going on his tour of the United States. State Department insiders believe he may be working on a solo album.  He was last seen heading south on I-15.
