Mental illnesses including depression and post-traumatic stress have increased  as a result of climate change.

According to a new study, prepared for the Climate Change Institute, loss of social cohesion in the wake of severe weather events related to climate change are linked to highly increased rates of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress and substance abuse.

As many as three in five people reported ”emotional injury, stress and despair” in the wake of these events.

The report, A Climate of Suffering:  Mental Health Crisis Caused by Climate Change, called the past 15 years a ”preview of life under unrestrained global warming”.

”While cyclones, drought, bushfires and floods are all a normal part of life, there is no doubt our climate is changing,” the report says.

”Recent conditions are entirely consistent with the best scientific predictions: as the world warms so the weather becomes wilder, with dramatic effect on people’s health and well-being.”

The paper suggests that climate change has led to an increase in the suicide rate in rural communities, which it claims rose by 28 per cent.

The report also looks at mental health in the aftermath of major weather events possibly linked to climate change.

It shows that four in 10 primary school children, nationally, reported symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

”There’s really clear evidence around severe weather events,” the executive director of the Brain and Mind Institute (BMI), Professor Ian Wickman, said.

”We’re now more sophisticated in understanding the mental health effects and these effects are one of the major factors.

”What we have seriously underestimated is the effects on social cohesion. That is very hard to rebuild and they are critical to the mental health of an individual.”

”When we talk about the next 50 years and what are going to be the big drivers at the community level of mental health costs, one we need to factor in are severe weather events, catastrophic weather events,” he said.

Al Gore went on Countdown with Keith Olbermann and called for a non-violent revolution – an American Spring!

Al Gore isn’t happy with the Debt Celing deal.   He thinks it’s time that America had a non-violent uprising similar to what happened in Tahrir Square in Egypt.

“We need to have an American spring, you know, the Arab spring. The non-violent part of it isn’t finished yet, but we need to have an American spring. A kind of an American Tahrir Square. Non-violent change where people from the grassroots get involved again. Not the, you know, not in the Tea Party style,’” Al Gore said on Current TV’s “Countdown with Keith Olbermann.”

“There are people who are genuinely upset in the Tea Party. I understand that. But that movement was funded with seed money from right-wing billionaires, the Koch Brothers, and promoted on Fox News,” Gore said.

Gore said that he would happily lead the revolution but that he is “afraid of large crowds.”

“Keith, I’d love to lead the revolution, which I think should happen in Times Square in New York, but I don’t do well in crowds.  If there’s more than five people in my living room, I break out in hives”

When asked if the revolution would be a protest against Barack Obama, Gore said. “No, the protest would be against the Tea Partiers who are trying to ruin President Obama’s glorious presidency.”

When told that a revolution is usually against a current governmental administration and not against other protesters (the Tea Party), Gore responded, “Can you see my baldspot?”

Al Gore said that his revolution in Times Square should also include polar bears because “they have a lot to complain about.  It’s too damn hot!”

Al Gore also told Keith Olbermann that he is considering running for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States.  “I love Barack, I really do, but we need someone in the White House who knows how to turn off the lights and turn on the green.”

LOS ANGELES -  Al Gore wants to combat global warming by controlling the population – sterilizing women.

Former Vice President Al Gore is venturing into a touchy topic, presenting his new solution to combat the buildup of greenhouse gases warming the planet.

At first he was just advocating simply improving technology to reduce fossil fuel emissions, but nowhe is advocating “empowering girls and women, by sterilizing all women under 25.”

Al Gore believes that the sterilization should be voluntary  – at first – “women who are evolved will volunteer to be sterilized for the greater good for planet.”  BUT, if women do not choose to sterilize themselves, Al Gore believes that the government should force women (under 25) to be sterilized.

“We have to take drastic steps to save the planet.  There are too many people – we must take aggressive action or we will all be dead,”  Gore said in a speech Monday in New York.

“When the population begins to stabilize and societies begin to make better choices – then women can have babies again.”

Gore’s thinking goes this way: If women are have access to “fertility management,” and if they have the power to act to save the planet by forgoing children, then the result would be stabilization of the global population.

As it stands now, demographers at the United Nations forecast that the world’s population will hit 7 billion later this year, march past 9 billion in 2045 and exceed 10 billion by the end of the century. Nearly all of the growth is expected to come in poor nations in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Gore made his remarks at the eighth annual Games for Change Festival, a conference organized by those who want to promote the use of video games for social change.

AUSTRALIA – Darryl Hannah continues her worldwide effort to Save the Mermaids.

Actress and environmentalist Daryl Hannah, whose plastic surgeon has been doing an excellent job for the 49-year-old, appearing at Oceanographic Convention in a remote area of northern Australia. The ‘Kill Bill’ star is Down Under to spread the word about her effort to save the mermaids, which she has repeatedly stated are “our earths’ greatest gift to man.”

In an opening speech that was open to the public in Queensland, Hannah said, “Mermaids are an endangered species.  If we do not stop the cruel behavior toward them, we may never see another one again.”

Several skeptical reporters pointed out to Hannah that mermaids were “mythical creatures that don’t exist.”  A disgusted Hanna brushed off their comments with, “Have you seen Santa Claus? The Easter Bunny? Right, well, if you haven’t seen them that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.  If a tree falls in the woods, you know?”  Hannah estimates that are over two thousand mermaids living in the world’s oceans.

Reporters kept questioning Hannah, urging her to show proof there are any mermaids in the world.  “That’s the exact problem. What is killing mermaids is the fact that people don’t believe in them?  If you believe in them then you will see them, if you don’t believe in them then they will become extinct, disappear.  I don’t want that!”

Hannah became sympathetic to the plight of the mermaid when played a mermaid in the movie Splash, staring Tom Hanks, in 1984.  “There were several mermaids, hired by the producers, who served as consultants on the film. I got very close to them and want to help them any way I can.”

Tom Hanks had this to say about the Save the Mermaids campaign.  “Darryl’s nuts.  There’s a reason she hasn’t done  many films lately.  She’s completely off her rocker.  There are not now, nor have there ever been any mermaids.”  When told what Hanks said, Hannah remarked, “Tom has a small penis.  I’m just saying…”

Daryl Hannah is going to Thailand to continue her Save the Mermaids tour.  Rumors that she is sleeping with Al Gore are completely false.  “Al Gore has helped me a lot.  He believes in mermaids. He’s a mermaid lover.”

Without Darryl and Al – the world would be in big trouble.

WASHINGTON -  The Obama Administration confirmed tonight that Osama Bin Laden is in the C.I.A.

Fidel Castro, the aging Cuban revolutionary claimed today that Osama bin Laden is in the pay of the CIA and that President George Bush  called upon the al-Qaida leader whenever he needed to increase the fear quotient in America.

The former Cuban president said he knows it because he read it on WikiLeaks.

The Obama Administration swiftly responded. Rahm Emanuel said, “President Obama is having ice cream with his family.  He’ll get back to you on that on next Tuesday.  And yes, he likes vanilla and chocolate.”

But Defense Secretary William Gates spoke with reporters and said, “Oh well, Fidel let the rat out of the bag.  Osama bin Laden did work for the C.I.A. back in the early 1990s.  He was an agent working out of Saudi Arabia.  But we haven’t heard from him since and he hasn’t picked up his monthly check in over fifteen years.”

Gates also confirmed that Osama Bin Laden was in the Washington D.C. the night that George Bush told reporters at the Pentagon that he wanted to bring Osama Bin Laden in “dead or alive.”

Gates denied, however, that the thousands of pages of American classified documents made public by WikiLeaks pointed to who the al-Qaida leader as C.I.A. as Fidel Castro claims.  “I don’t think Fidel could read one page, let alone thousands of pages at this point.”

It is possible that Osama Bin Laden – as a C.I.A  Agent will capture himself and collect the $25 million dollar reward.   It’s not clear whether Osama would bring himself in – dead or alive.

In other related news, Fidel Castro also told a Lithuanian reporter that he felt that humans would have to live on Mars by 2030.  “This planet is going to burn up in the next ten years.”   When asked how he thought humans would get to Mars, Castro said, “The Cuban Mothership.”  He added that there would only be room for Cubans, Russians, Venezuelans and North Koreans on the ship. “Sorry, Americans, you’re not invited.”

“Al Gore isn’t invited either,” said Castro.

Rhinebeck, NY -  Bill Clinton threw a wild bachelor party last night for his future son-in-law, Marc Mezvinsky. Chelsea Clinton wasn’t happy.

Bill Clinton insisted on throwing a bachelor party for his future son-in-law, over the strong objections of his beautiful daughter, Chelsea.  But when Bill wants something, Bill gets it.  And what he wanted was… girls, girls, girls!

The former President brought in seventy-five strippers, pole dancers, and contortionists to the “whipped-cream” themed party held for Marc Mezvinsky at the Veranda House in Rhinebeck.  Marc was reluctant, but Bill told him, “You’re a Clinton now son, so you have to embrace the Clinton traditions.”

Mezvinsky informed Bill that Chelsea was taking his last name, “She’s dropping the Clinton entirely, sir.” A naked Bill Clinton stood up, dropped the stripper off his lap and punched Mezvinsky in the face, “The hell she is!  She’s never taking your name, unless you run for President or she runs for President, then she’ll take your name, but that’s just because the moron voters of America like it that way. She’ll always be a Clinton. Now go get me some more grain alcohol”

Clinton did a fuzzy navel jell-o shot off a half-naked bartender, but she scolded him. “My navel isn’t that low, Mr. President.”  Al Gore showed up at the Bachelor Party with a gaggle of massage therapists. During the party Gore had several happy ending massages.  He also had happy ending pole-dances, a happy ending game of pool and a happy ending coat-check. As a gift to the groom, Gore wanted to personally give Mezvinsky a happy ending, but Mezvinsky was too busy trying to keep Gina Gershon from pulling his pants down. Gershon was at the party as a “favor” to Bill.

Surprisingly, Hillary Clinton decided to attend. “Why should Bill and Marc have all the fun?”  Hillary, dressed as a stripper, was rolled out in a cage. She did a burlesque striptease for her future son-in-law, who tried to look away, but James Carville held his head in place.  “Look at your mother-in-law. You try and tell me that ain’t the next President of the United States!”

In an incoherent and rambling speech, Bill Clinton said that he was giving Marc a nickname.  “Everyone calls me Bubba, so I think it’s only fitting that Marc have a similar name. From now on you’ll be known as Boo-Boo. We’ll be Bubba and Boo-Boo. Now go get me some weed!”

The lowlight of the night was when George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush showed up and did The Full Monty for the crowd. But Hillary couldn’t take her eyes off W.  “I think I’m in love. Either that or I’m in hell.” After Bill passed out cigars to all the guys, the party quickly got out of hand and… well, WWN can’t reveal everything that happened but a lot of girls are going to be saving their blue dresses.

An insider tells Weekly World News that Gore first fell for Crow when she recommended there be a limitation put on how many toilet paper squares individuals can use in one sitting.  An excited Gore was overheard saying, “I’ve had top scientists around the world working on solutions to anthropogenic global warming for years and Sheryl came up with the simplest and most brilliant solution in a few minutes.”  Since that day, Gore has carefully monitored the toilet paper squares used by his staff, friends and family.  Gore fired one heavy-set publicist when he found out the man had used eleven squares after the Gore entourage made a stop at a Tucson Del Taco.

Gore insiders knew he was smitten with Crow because he would often dance around his hotel room strumming an air guitar and singing All I Wanna Do.  Several massage therapists also suspected an affair between the former Vice President and Crow because whenever they did “abdominal work” on the former Vice President, he would often belt out “C’mon, C’mon”.

Laurie David and Crow were partners on Sheryl Crow’s “Stop Global Warming Tour” in 2007 and slept on the same bus as they traveled to college campuses around the country. Apparently, Crow and David both fell for the Gore, but the rocker got her man.  Laurie David, however, has not only has denied having an affair with Al Gore but also claims that Sheryl Crow never had an affair with Gore either. “If Sheryl did have an affair with Al behind my back, she’d better stay far away from me. The first cut is the deepest.”

Crow remains an active supporter of Al Gore’s efforts and continues to assail his detractors. In the June issue of Glamour magazine, Crow told Katie Couric that the Tea Partiers and Global Warming deniers were “a bunch of rubes” and that she was worried that the “uneducated” and “angry” could become dangerous. “Knowledge is power, and anything less than that when it comes to anger can be dangerous,” said Crow.  When asked by Weekly World News if the knowledge of her affair with Gore would anger his ex-wife Tipper, Crow had no comment, but she did sing a verse of her hit song, “Love is Free.”

Meanwhile, Al Gore continues to avoid reporters’ questions about global warming, Laurie David, massage therapists and now, Sheryl Crow. But he did make a brief statement. “I want to clear the record on a few things. Yes, I did he invent the internet.  Yes, Tipper and I were the inspiration for the novel, “Love Story” and yes… Sheryl Crow has asked me to play lead guitar on her next Soak In The Sun, Go Solar Tour.”  As Gore walked away, several reporters noticed three toilet paper squares were stuck to the bottom of his right shoe. One reporter yelled out, “Is that your carbon footprint”?

Did Al Gore get elected President after all? Cuz everywhere Al goes, it snows – and I see Washington is covered in the stuff!

They say a bunch of bureaucrats got the day off. Let’s hope the blizzard keeps up – the longer those dodos stay off the “job,” the better off we’ll be!

I’m surprised the Teleprompter Kid’s hot air hasn’t melted all the snow by now, though. He was on my damn TV set AGAIN yesterday. Dammit, he still hasn’t sent me a check for the new one I needed to buy when his face burned into my old one last year. Now it looks like that stupid Shroud of Turnips those Catholics pray to!

You’d think some of those people in D.C. never saw snow before. ‘Course, maybe Obama hasn’t, being from Liberia or wherever. But the rest of his crew is from Chicago, so they’ve got no excuses for whining about a little white stuff.

Hell, when I was a boy, we didn’t get “snow days” or any of that crap! We went to our little red one room schoolhouse no matter what. That “blizzard” they’ve got in D.C. is nothing compared to what we trudged through back in my day.

Kids today are such wimps. All they do is play at their damn video games all day, sitting in their baggy pants, eating Cheetos.

I hope the next bad guys who attack us are zombie skeletons with magic swords, cuz from what I can tell with these video games, that’s the only army today’s kids know how to fight!

Anyway, I’ll be waiting for Al Gore to explain how all this snow is caused by global warming, or else give back all his prizes. But I expect that won’t happen until Washington really freezes over!

Now everybody’s laughing at Sarah Palin because when she gave a speech, she wrote some words on her hand.

That’s pretty rich, coming from people who worship the Teleprompter Kid!

At least Sarah Palin wrote her words the old fashioned American way, with a Magic Marker. She doesn’t need some fancy, foreign made machine to do her remembering for her!

And I’m pretty sure Palin wrote those words herself, and didn’t get some longhaired hippie terrorist to “ghostwrite” them, either!

If Obama can win a bunch of awards for books he didn’t even write, and Al Gore can get a Nobel Prize for a slide show, I’m pretty sure Sarah Palin deserves at least a Pulitzer for those scribbles on her hand!

Those lie-berals get crazy about the stupidest things. They’re so desperate, they want to ban Super Bowl ads now. I’m so old, I still remember when lie-berals were the ones who told us, “If you don’t like what’s on TV, change the channel”?

Back then, of course, the lie-berals were the ones in charge of the TV! Now that we right-wingers have our own TV station and so forth, lie-berals want censorship.

Leave it to Bill Clinton to travel thousands of miles just to meet two young chicks who can’t get away!

I guess being married to Hillary has to be pretty bad if it makes a fella wanna fly to North Korea! Hell, they had to draft me to get me over there, and let me tell you, it ain’t pretty!

Even I’ll admit it: it’s great that Clinton got those two lady reporters out of the clutches of that creepy little weirdo who runs the place. Who knows what crazy stuff that Kim Ding Dong might have had in store for them? I’m pretty sure that ugly mutt can only get girlfriends if he grabs them off the side of the road and keeps them in a dungeon.

I figure Clinton talked Kim Ding Dong into handing the ladies over to him, in exchange for tips on how to score with chicks!

But here’s what I don’t understand: one of those lady reporters works for Al Gore, at his stupid TV channel nobody watches. So why didn’t Gore, Mr. Nobel Peace Prize, go over to rescue his own employee himself?

Back in the good old days, Ross Perot paid out of his own pocket to get an old Special Forces colonel to rescue a couple of his workers from the crazy Iranians. But Al Gore, even though he’s just as rich and powerful, couldn’t drag himself away from his open (environmentally friendly) fridge to do the same thing?

Anyway, it’s a pretty sorry day when old Ed Anger has to congratulate Bill Clinton, but I salute the old horndog for a job well done!
