JEFF IRELAND INSULTS DEZ BRYANT

MIAMI, FL – One NFL general manager put his foot in his mouth with comments he made about one player’s mother!

Jeff Ireland is the Miami Dolphins GM, but apparently good communication skills weren’t a requirement for the Dolphins. Ireland is apologizing to NFL rookie Dez Bryant regarding his mother. He should also throw in a thank you for not having his face lit up by Bryant.

During pre-draft interviews, Ireland decided that asking Bryant if his mother had ever been a prostitute was an appropriate question. Bryant, obviously offended by the question, gave Ireland a less than pleased “No.”

After the internet started buzzing about his comments, Ireland felt compelled to release a statement where he worked in an apology.

“My job is to find out as much information as possible about a player that I’m considering drafting. Sometimes that leads to asking in-depth question,” he said in his statement. “Having said that, I talked to Dez Bryant and told him I used poor judgement in one of the questions I asked him. I certainly meant no disrespect and apologized to him.”

Ireland’s comments struck a chord in others as well. NFL legend Mike Ditka was also extremely upset by Ireland’s comments.

“I think the individual who asked that question,” Ditka told 790 AM radio in Miami, “somebody ought to whack him in the head. You don’t ask that question.”

Bryant was selected 24th overall by the Dallas Cowboys and he’s sure to relish an opportunity to play the Miami Dolphins. Apology aside, Ireland may have overstepped his boundaries and should certainly not be allowed to live this down.
