UPDATE – Several priests from around the country are voicing their skepticism at Obama converting to Catholicism for 24 hours.
Many believe that considering his history of supporting stem cell research and gay right, he needs to convert for at least a week to show is seriousness. Bishop O’Malley of Boston says, “Converting for one day is absurd! If it was a week, and he led a youth group outing, then maybe.”
However President Obama remains unfazed by the skepticism. His world-famous charm is expected to win over any disbelievers before the crucial day.

Catholics across the country are upset that Obama will be speaking at a Catholic university when some of his policies are not in keeping with their ideals. As a compromise President Obama has offered to convert to Catholicism for a day.
“The President hopes a one day conversion will help him better understand a different perspective that many Americans come from” said one aide while cornered in a bathroom stall.
On May 22nd the President will be baptized as a Catholic at pre-dawn mass. Insiders from the President’s bible study class confirm he will be named after Saint Benedict the Asthmatic, patron saint of world leaders and mental illness.
The rest of his tentative itinerary is as thus:
7:00am – Second Mass to ring in the Dawn
8:00am – Holy Eucharist
9:00am – Conference call with treasury department
10:00am – Midmorning Mass
11:00am – Update with Generals on war effort
12:00pm – Patron Saint Bingo
12:30pm – Light Lunch
1:00pm – Midday Mass followed by Bible Sparring with Cardinal Newson
2:00pm – Commencement Speech
5:00pm – Quick Nap
6:00pm – Visit children in the cancer wing of Friar Tuck’s Memorial Hospital
7:00pm – Quick Dinner
7:30pm – Hug it out with Senate conservatives
8:00pm – Evensong Mass
9:00pm – Respectfully renounce the Catholic Church
9:15pm – Flight back to Washington DC
Some traditional Catholic leaders are threatening to boycott the commencement despite President Obama’s effort to compromise. But even their own diocese seem to not care as seats are quickly filling up to play Patron Saint Bingo with the President.
Should the catholic church concern itself with politics? The need to rethink their ideas of being for or against apolitical figure. Unless the catholic church decides it wants to start paying taxes.
The opposipion of the Church to Pres. Obama speaking at Notre Dame is not political. This is a moral issue. This contradicts our core beliefs and we have every right to objecy
If Obama will convert to Catholicism, he should IMMEDIATELY REVERSE ALL HIS EXECUTIVE ORDERS IN FAVOR OF ABORTION, STEM CELL RESEARCH, RESTORE FUNDS TO CATHOLIC STUDENTS IN WASHINGTON AND OTHERS THAT ARE CONTRARY TO THE CHURCH. NOW POLITICIANS SHOULD SEE THAT THERE IS THE CATHOLIC VOTE TO CONTEND WITH. AND CATHOLICS SHOULD NOW REALIZE THEY HAVE TO STAND FOR CHRIST AND HIS CHURCH AND BE ZEALOUS TO BE THE DRIVER OF THE MORAL CULTURE OF THE US. AND OF THE WORLD.
It has ALWAYS been the policy of the Catholic church that life begins at conception and there are NO exceptions. It is an outrage and a scandal that “Our Lady’s University,”(Notre Dame), one of the premier Catholic universities in the United States, would bestow such an honor on President Obama given his clear support for policies and laws that directly contradict fundamental Catholic teachings on life and marriage. It is unacceptable to expect someone to forget about their core moral beliefs even for one day! So now, any Catholics that will be attending will be sinning in the eyes of God, so now a great number of students, teachers, clergy and family/friends are refusing to attend their own graduation ceremonies!!. Remember the definition of a Sin or the act of sinning means "Any Deliberate disobedience to the known will of God."

I think Abortion is a most evil crime. For anyone to use the lame excuse that the Church is inserting itself into politics is moronic. The Church opposed Slavery when nobody else did, and was attacked vicuously. The murder of the un-born is a stain on humanity that will reep what it sows.

I applaud Notre Dame as well as any other institution of higher education that chooses to confer a degree on President Obama. I should add too, that I am a practicing Catholic. There are bigger and better things for the Newman Society and other such Catholic organizations to get involved with.
It was Jesus himself who said, "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone".
In order to avoid Obama’s true character and justify him being commenment speaker at Notre Dame, the Catholic Church is comproming their values by using or borrowing the sacrament of baptism to right a wrong. What is a one week conversion? This is a mockery to the Cross of Christ and an insult to those the devote their lives to catholism principles and beliefs. This too is a scandal, a mockery to the sacred sacrament of baptism in which we as christians identify with; the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.
Now there is a second scandal of which I call the Holy Baptism Scandal. What is the Catholic Church thinking? Are they attempting to satisfy those who oppose Obama commencement speech with a "24 hr conversion" by abusing the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. I don't know what significance a 24 hr conversion has but i do know this act is a mockery to the Cross of Christ. To Christians baptism signifies identifing the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.
As a Catholic University Notre Dame should put Catholic teaching above all .
By having someone who had demonstrated that his beliefs are 180 degrees from ours sends
an adverse message not only to the graduates but to the world.

I agree —what is this? Nobody is allowed to become a catholic even long term without prepaparation —there has to be great hope that a person will be raised or practice catholicism for the long term—-must be a joke -this is weird!
