WASHINGTON D.C. – Christmas has come early for Fox News!
The smoke has finally cleared from the Helen Thomas scandal. With her retirement, came a vacancy in the front row of the White House briefing room. Three organizations battles for the right to have that seat – Fox News, Bloomberg News and NPR. Only one could be victorious and Fox News moving on up to the front row.
After a unanimous vote by the White House Correspondents Association, Fox News will join the broadcast networks and CNN up front, occupying Thomas’ long-held seat in the center.
With the Associated Press normally getting the first question at presidential press conferences, they were moved to the center under the new set up. Fox News will take over the wire service’s spot up front. Bloomberg News remains in the second row and NPR gets upgraded from the third row to the second row.
The WHCA, in a statement, confirmed the news and described the decision as “very difficult.” However, the board said it was “persuaded by Fox’s length of service and commitment to the White House television pool.”
Other noteworthy moves include The Washington Times moving from the third row to the fourth row due to significant cut backs in the recent year and Politico and American Urban Radio Networks moving up to the third row.
