This is exactly what the the companies that build tvs want-government subsidizes production. But hey it will boost the economy-somewhat. The problem is, most of the money will end up in the hands of people who won't spend it.

But actually if everything does switch over to digital HD signals, quality could go up, but not nessasarily…

Anyway, be ready for TV prices to rise: For the companies that produce TVs, they have just hit the jackpot of high demand. And their CEO's will take advantage of it or be fired, in all probability.
