TEHRAN – The Obama administration is sending the U.S. women’s badminton team to Iran as a cultural exchange. This will be the administration’s first attempt at diplomacy, following two years of former President Bush’s efforts to promote understanding through cultural, medical and athletic contacts.
Iranian officials are perplexed but polite. “We are happy to welcome the U.S. team to our country,” stated Iran’s Physical Education Organization Vice President Mohammad Aliabadi.
He continued, “We also would have appreciated some new plane parts for our increasingly shoddy aircraft fleet, but, a women’s badminton team is good, too…”, then coughed loudly. The U.S. is still denying Boeing any sales in Iran.
The badminton players will be outfitted with special loose-fitting athletic clothing and shuttlecock-print headscarves. Games will only be played between the salah prayers of afternoon and sunset.
If the trip goes well, the administration will follow up with a special visit from the U.S. table tennis team.
