SOLAR PANEL IN OUTER SPACE

NASA has launched huge solar panel into space.  They will be soaking up the sun’s rays from high above Earth.

The energy will be beamed down to our planet where power stations will pick it up and farm it out to customers.

Executives who run the California-based firm Artemis Innovation Management Solutions, said the Solar Power Satellite via Arbitrarily Large PHased Array, has finally arrived.

The Solar Panel is cheaper than some alternatives.

It is made up of thousands of thin, curved mirror-like pieces which could move around to ensure that they pick up as much sun as possible.

The inside of the SPS-ALPHA is lined with photovaltic panels which convert the sun’s energy into microwaves.

These microwaves are beamed down to Earth out of the bottom end of the ‘cocktail glass’.

On the NASA website Mr Mankins writes the solar panel  is a bio-mimetic approach to the challenge of space solar power.

The solar panel is constructed of huge platforms from tens of thousands of small elements that remotely and affordably deliver 10s to 1000s of megawatts using wireless power transmission to markets on Earth and missions in space.’

The technology could make it more likely that mankind could build a Dyson sphere.

The spherical solar panel  goes around the Sun and will give us more energy than we ever need.

Turning the solar energy into microwaves and beaming them across space could now provide the answer.

A group of Japanese companies and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency also plan to launch a solar space station next year.

A Dyson Sphere would require most of the material from the rest of the solar system to build. It will take a long time to develope the kind of technology needed to turn our solar system into a Dyson Sphere. It would be easier to Terraform Mars and possibly some of the moons of Jupiter. Even that would require technology that we dont have yet.

    make it happen!!!

Solar activity has a profound effect on us and it is a good idea to know about it. Much of it is good, we are only beginning to understand the full impact of sunlight and it is amazing stuff, check out http://www.educatinghumanity.com/2012/03/solar-fl

What would prevent someone from turning the space solar panels into a weapon of mass destruction?

  5. andrew says:

I have another question. Is the solar panels human tech or alien tech?

  6. Jason says:

Pretty neat idea, considering that in a few years we are going to need all the space we can get here on Earth.

  7. Keshia Blore says:

Solar panels are really essential if we want to have a renewable energy source.,
