COLUMBUS, OH – Ted Williams, a homeless man from Cleveland with a golden radio voice, was hired by the Today Show!
“I put Ted William’s video on the web, thinking nothing of it,” said Rich Y., the amateur journalist who filmed the YouTube video. “Next thing I know, a producer from NBC called me up and asked for the guy’s information. They said they wanted to hire him!”
NBC has been looking for a new host for the Today Show since 2006, when they mistakenly hired Meredith Vieira to replace Katie Couric.
“Ted Williams will make a perfect addition to the show,” said Mark Woolf, a Today Show producer. “He has the best broadcasting voice I’ve heard in a long time. He and Matt Lauer will be great together.”
The YouTube video shows Williams at a street corner, showcasing his golden pipes. In the video, Williams says that he used to have a career in radio, but fell on hard times when alcohol and drugs entered his life.
Anchors at the Today Show are excited for the new addition.
“I’ve seen the video and I think he’s amazing,” said current host Matt Lauer. “I would pay to listen to this guy read from the phone book. He’s that good.”
However, some media watchdog organizations say that William’s could be a negative influence on Today Show viewers.
“We can’t just put a drug addict on TV because he has a nice voice,” said Susan Brandhouse, founder of Good Clean TV, a religious media-rights group. “Young viewers will get the wrong impression. When they see this guy on TV, they’ll think it’s okay to screw up in life because they can always get a second chance in show business.”
But Williams doesn’t worry about his outspoken critics. He’s just thankful to have a second chance at a life he “threw in the garbage” ten years ago.
“I’ve been clean for two years,” said Williams. “I think it’s time I start to turn my life around. This job at the Today Show will be the perfect start.”

Susan Brandhouse is an idiot…how can he be a bad influence….she is basically saying that no one deserves a second chance….I think he as a testament that you may mess up in life but you can get your life together and make something of yourself and inspire others with the same addictions or problems. Cudos to the Today Show and others that are giving Mr. Williams a second chance at life…It would also be a good idea for them to also pay for him to attend or continue to attend some type of counseling because when windfalls come, its easy to get stressed and go back to old habits…I wish him the best of luck…
What A Voice…The Man Can Talk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If this man has been clean for 2 yrs. and repented for a sinful life in the past he deserves a second chance at a good LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He recognizes this as a gift from God! God Bless TED!
I think Ted Williams has a great voice, and would be an asset to anyone who may hire him. As far as the founder of "Good Clean TV, Susan Brandhouse" is concerned .. religious media. rights group .. Thou shall not judge, lest thee be judged, sayeth the Lord. Where is your religious compassion, Susan Brandhouse? He is great and i think everyone deserves a second chance. he's been clean for two years and accepts the mistakes that he made. Hope he makes it big. Gongrats Ted……

Susan Branhouse is a moron. She should be going after the likes of Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears–celebs who have a wider audience of impressionable people. How many kids do you know who watch The Today Show? I'm sure not that many.
If someone is going to fall off the rails, they will do so no matter what. Let this story be an inspiration to those who are trying to find help for themselves and earn a second chance.
What amazes me is how in a country like the US, anyone can be famous for anything and everything these days. What sickens me is when guys like Jeffrey Dahmer gain cult status for the disgusting things he did–remember when there were collector cards of murderers and serial killers?? What was THAT?? Mmm, just a side note.
