Large-scale destruction of magnetic fields in the Sun’s atmosphere is powering enormous solar explosions!
A solar filament that had been lurking atop the sun for a week finally exploded this month, the latest in a string of large solar explosions that NASA scientists say will peak in 2011.
This explosion, seen below on video, released high-energy plasma into the solar system, but did not create auroras on Earth because it dispersed before reaching our atmosphere.
NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory captured the image sequence, which shows the filament exploding. In August, NASA scientists observed a 28-hour period of shock waves, solar flare explosions and solar “tsunamis” that rocked the sun.
They’ve named the event: The Great Eruption.
Scientists say the activity is a sign that the sun is “waking up” and heading for another “solar maximum” cycle in 2011. So, get ready for it to get really, really hot next year. Not global warming hot… even hotter.
Many scientists predict that the polar ice caps might completely melt if, as predicted, there is The Greatest Eruption of All Time!
What can humans do to stop the complete destruction of the sun?
“Nothing. There’s absolutely nothing man can do. I suggest people live full lives and enjoy every day, because by next July, we may all be… toast,” said astrophysicist and NASA’s solar eruption specialist, Dr. John Malley.
