Katy Perry is really, really hot. She is also really, really generous. Both of these facts combine to make Russell Brand a really, really lucky guy. For his upcoming 35th birthday, Perry opened up the check book and got the comedian a unique and very expensive gift.
The “California Gurls” singer shelled out $200,000 to buy Brand a ticket on the maiden voyage of Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic space venture, reported by E! Online.
“It is true,” a rep for Virgin Galactic told E! News. “We are very excited to have him on board.
After about two to three days of intense astronaut training, the British comedian will reportedly travel more than 365,000 feet into the Earth’s atmosphere at a speed three times faster than the speed of sound.
“There will be 17-inch-diameter windows to look out onto,” space agent for Virgin Galactic told E! “Passengers will be able to view Earth around 800 miles in any direction from space.”
While in space, Perry’s fiance will float weightlessly for five minutes before returning to Earth. Virgin Galactic will make sure that the whole ordeal is a celebration.
“They will pop champagne, give you astronaut wings and give you a party,” the Virgin rep said.
There is no set flight date as Virgin Galactic’s spacecraft is still in the testing stages. The vehicle did, however, have a successful inaugural test flight earlier this year.
