NEW YORK, NY – Mel Gibson may have alienated almost everyone in his life, but he still has at least one person in his corner!
Mel Gibson is a sinking ship and he’s going down fast. In many people’s eyes, when it comes to being racist, Gibson just about takes the cake. He’s had something to say about Jews, Blacks and Latin Americans – your racist trifecta if you will. Gibson has thrown in some death threats to his former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva for good measure. Despite it all, Whoopi Goldberg still has his back.
“I don’t like what he did here but I know Mel, and I know he’s not a racist,” Goldberg said on The View. “I have had a long friendship with Mel. You can say he’s being a bonehead, but I can’t sit and say that he’s a racist having spent time with him in my house with my kids.”
Gibson, 54, has remained silent on the latest controversy, which threatens to end his career. He has been dropped by his talent agency and is being investigated by police over allegations of domestic violence against Grigorieva, the mother of his nine-month-old daughter.
Goldberg’s stance shocked her “The View” co-hosts.
“Well, that language certainly sounds racist to me,” co-host Joy Behar said. “Give me a break, you’re an anti-Semite, you’re a misogynist, and you’re a racist!,” said Behar referencing Mel’s rant tapes and anti-semitic remarks he made during a 2006 arrest for DUI.
“I don’t like what he’s done,” Goldberg countered.
