JESSE JACKSON WEIGHS IN ON DAN GILBERT

NEW YORK, NY – An unlikely character weighed in on the LeBron James saga!
LeBron James has been criticized and villainized for his decision to join the Miami Heat. Not only did he spurn the Cleveland Cavaliers, but he used a one-hour made for TV special to declare his decision. The self-promotional hour made James look selfish and egotistical, and it also marked the first moment that the Cavaliers found out about his decision.
King James’ decision infuriated Cavaliers’ owner Dan Gilbert, so much so that he released an open letter to the fans in which he unleashed a bitter tirade against his former player. His words were so shocking that media outlets such as ESPN had to call the franchise to make sure they were real. Well they were and some people believe he had one too many drinks or his words were ill-advised. One of those individuals was Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Jackson felt the need to not only share his thoughts on the matter, but he also found a way to make the saga about race. If there is anyone that can make any matter about race, it’s Jackson.
Jackson accused Gilbert of treating James like “a runaway slave” after Gilbert’s letter which criticized James for his handling of the free-agency process. In his ill-advised missive, Gilbert calls James “narcissistic” while telling Cavaliers fans, “You simply don’t deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.”
“He speaks as an owner of LeBron and not the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers,” the reverend said in a release from his Chicago-based civil rights group, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition. “His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave. This is an owner employee relationship – between business partners – and LeBron honored his contract.”
In a statement released by the team on Monday, Gilbert tried to put an end to the issue.
“I strongly disagree with Rev. Jesse Jackson’s recent comments and we are not going to engage in any related discussion on it,” Gilbert said. “Going forward, we’re very excited about the Cavaliers and the positive future of our region.”
It’s almost as if the outcast reverend sits in his basement, reads the current news and plots way to get his two cents in. His career has been marked by sheer controversy and inflammatory rhetoric. His career is in a continuous downward spiral, and he’ll throw fuel into a fire if it means he’ll get some sort of publicity. At least now we can rest easy because we all know where he stand on the LeBron James saga.
