I cannot not say whether or not the balloon episode was a stunt. I do believe, however, that the kid did a very stupid thing. First, he hid and made his parents believe he was somewhere else. And instead of letting them know he was ok, he continued to hide while thousands of dollars and many caring people's valuable time were wasted searching for him. This was an imaginary event – where nothing actually happened – and yet, we take the time to interview this family who should (as it turns out) be better at hiding. With a child who is so good at hiding – why aren't they all hiding now from the shame they should be feeling from causing everyone so much distress. And finally what I want to know is this – why do we want to interview unintelligent people and make unpleasant situations and people into something that borders on heroic and outstanding? Whatever happened to the days when you had to contribute something in this world to be worthy of recognition. What a shame it is when we devote so much time to ignorance.
