THREE STOOGES MOVIE

LOS ANGELES, CA – A Three Stooges movie is in the works, set to star Jim Carrey, Benicio Del Toro, and Sean Penn.  Ghosts of the original Stooges are in an uproar.

Based in the increasing popularity of film remakes, Hollywood is seeking to update another cherished gem: the Three Stooges.  Sean Penn, after winning an Academy award for the drama Milk, became the studio’s first choice to play Larry.  Fellow Oscar winner Benecio Del Toro (Traffic, The Usual Suspects) will play Moe, with Jim Carrey (23, The Majestic) as Curly.

The ghosts of the Three Stooges, have come forward to voice their dissatisfaction with the issue.

The Stooges have haunted Universal lot 34 since their accidental death in 1948.  They died in a freak explosion while filming “The Three Stooges Meet Hamlet.”  Their last words, caught on film and hidden in the Universal archives, were “Hey Moe, what’s this do?”

Spectral images of Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Curly Howard started appearing around the various Hollywood lots, for a moment figuring out where they were then berating each other for getting the directions wrong.  Finally this weekend the trio appeared in a meeting of the studio heads responsible for the upcoming Stooges picture.  An inside source says that after some initial panic Curly, said the following:

“Ladies and gentlemen, please excuse our interruption.  While we appreciate that our movies are still well known and that you want to use our characters.  However, we feel that the current trend of remakes is an act of creative laziness that will only alienate you from you audiences in the long run.  It is with the utmost respect that we ask you to please let our films be.  We would prefer to not have our legacy infringed by this endeavor.”

Then Moe’s ghost punched him and said, “I told you we should have worn sheets!”

As Stooges continued to fight the studio execs sat staring until one finally stood up, saying, “Yeah, but the wheels are already in motion with this, and we really think the Farrelly brothers will bring a lot of class to the franchise.”

The three stooges merely sighed and disappeared back to the spiritual plane.  But not before Moe called the assembled group a bunch of “knuckleheads.”

The assembled group continued their meeting, greenlighting a remake of Citizen Kane starring Tom Hanks and directed by Christopher Columbus.

  1. Hey!! That's a LIE!! They did NOT all die in a freak accident in 1948 – here's an excerpt from Wikipedia:

"The Stooges were commonly known by their first names: "Larry, Moe, and Curly" and "Moe, Larry, and Shemp," among other lineups. The act originally featured Moe Howard (born Harry [Moshe] Moses Horwitz in 1897), brother Shemp Howard (born [Shmuel] Samuel Horwitz[1]), and longtime friend Larry Fine (born Louis [Levi] Feinberg). Shemp was later replaced by brother Curly Howard (born Jerome Lester [Yehudah-Leib] Horwitz October 22, 1903). When Curly suffered a debilitating stroke in 1946,

  2. Shemp rejoined the act. After Shemp's death in 1955, he was replaced by bald-headed comedian Joe Besser, after the use of stuntman Joe Palma to record several "Shemp" shorts after his death. Eventually Joe "Curly-Joe" DeRita (born Joseph Wardell) would replace him. After Larry suffered a serious stroke in 1970 he was unable to continue performing. Emil Sitka, a longtime actor in Stooge comedies, was contracted to replace Larry—but no film was ever made with him in the role, although publicity photographs exist of him with his hair combed similarly to Larry's posing with Moe and Curly-Joe (see below). However, Larry's paralyzing stroke in 1970 effectively marked the end of the act. He died in January 1975. Moe died of cancer a few months later."

  3. So instead of saying – based on a true story…should it be based on a pack o'lies?

Also…the Three Stooges can NEVER be replaced!! Just like the Little Rascals, Betty Boop and The Bowery Boys, they're all history, part of a great era…but what's up with Hollywood writers – those poor uncreative brain dead freaks haven't put out anything NEW since I can't remember when!! Everything we're seeing these days is a remake of old stuff, based on books out for years, or comic book characters. Dang!! And THEY had a strike for more $$? For WHAT?!!

  4. The only new movies that me 'n' mine see as even slightly worth the risk of $40 for attendance are 'The Fast & Furious 4" and "Star Trek: Prequel" other than that it all looks like the same fart jokes and overtold stories….albeit both movies I've mentioned are remakes as well so I guess I'm in the 'fools with cash for folly' list…I find those the only ones worth considering.

Is being too PC making the writers uncreative?

  6. Here I go again!
This is a trainwreck! Imagine Benicio's, "Hey Porcupine!" or an underwieght Jim Carrey's "Nyuck, nyuck ,nyucks." Who'll dare yank SeanPenn's hair off his half bald pate?
Please release it in Imax at the tune of $300. million. I want to hear every yelp, cheesy sound effect and slap in Dolby. "Hey Benicio, look." That was my balled fist swinging down on the crown of your head! NYAAAAAAA! Hey, I'll watch it. I want to have the distinction of watching, "The Love Guru", "Howard the Duck" and the 21st century "3 StoogesThe Movie" debacle before the stars themselves bribe the studios into burying these "GEMS"!

  7. It's a trainwreck! Can you imagine Benicio cawing: "Hey porcupine, see this?" Or a skinny Jim Carrey's, "Nyuck. Nyuck. Nyuck." Sean Penn's "Why youuu!" will be disastrous. Will the new boys be wearing peroid costumes? Will Benicio bring himself to strike Jim on the head with a hammer? Will Sean tolerate his hair being yanked off his pate by the roots? Please release it on IMAX to the tune of $300 million! I want to hear the clangs, the thuds, the whoop whoops in Dolby. After a few years the stars themselves will pay to have this turkey canned. I'll rush to see it. This way I can tell my grandkids, "I saw both," Howard the Duck " and the 21st Century "Three Stooges" debacle. Hey Benicio, "Look!" Too late! My balled fist just swung down on the crown of your mop head. "Nyaaaaaaaaaaa!"

  8. Finding out that Carey is playing Curly has turned me off towards this movie. Carey is way too tall for the role, the Stooges were all under 5'5". Not to mention that is over acting will not do Curly any justice.

  9. Stooge Fan — I think Jim C. may be a couple of pounds lighter than Curly Howard as well… Heck, he probably weighs less than Curly's GHOST!!!

  10. Jim Carey has been doing Curly Fine's shtick for ages with a few of his own refinements. Couldn't think of anyone else better for the role than someone who's obviously studied them as a kid the way we all did while we were learning what "funny" was. Personally, I think he'll be brilliant!

  13. I grew up watching the 3 stooges. I'd run home from school to watch them in black and white, they were the highlight of my day. I have some ideas for curly and moe and I think you may like them.

For the role of Curly….Will Sasso from Mad TV. He has the build and the face and the slapstick comedy in his bones.

For the role of Moe….Jack Black, believe it or not I know he can pull off an awesome Moe.
I haven't thought of anyone for Larry though but please give my comment a double take.
