The 138th Kentucky Derby kicks off Saturday, and WWN is on it.

It’s an impressive field this year. From Bodemeister, with impressive speed, to unbeaten Gemologist to Santa Anita Derby winner I’ll Have Another, this year’s field promises to provide an exciting race.

But SaberCat will take it.

Three times in the past seven years, a long shot of 20/1 odds or longer has pulled off the upset for Kentucky Derby bettors.

Going back 10 years, there have been four, with 50/1 dreams Mine That Bird in 2009 and Giacomo in 2005 the biggest payoffs.

Not to mention, three horses at 50-1 odds or longer (and possibly more by the time the horses break at Churchill Downs Saturday).

“It’s the 35-1 Sabercat that could be a live longshot in the 138^th running of the Derby on Saturday,” said Mike Pickett of OddsShark.com, which has been tracking 2012 Derby odds since last November.

The Steve Asmussen trainee was no match for the likely Kentucky Derby favorite Bodemeister in a third-place finish in the Arkansas Derby, but the colt was making just his second start as a 3-year-old.

The colt locked in a starting spot in the Derby based on the graded money he earned winning the Delta Jackpot last November, giving his connections the luxury of bringing him along slower than most of the other leading Derby contenders.

Witha  win Sabercat will be following on the heels of Super Saver who won last here at 21-1 odds. War Emblem was 20-1 in winning the 2002 edition.

The dedicated man deserves an ‘A’ for effort at least as he runs and jumps onto a trampoline positioned in front of the hoop while thousands of fans look on at half-time during the Atlanta Hawks playoff loss to the Boston Celtics on Tuesday night.

With the chorus of R. Kelly’s I Believe I Can Fly surely ringing out in his mind, the overweight man springs himself off the the trampoline, presumably looking forward to a slam-dunk and a moment of glory.

Unfortunately for the fan, he suffers a total failure to launch, doesn’t even come close to the hoop and lands flat on his face, thankfully on a carefully positioned crash-mat.

Appearing on the website worldstarhiphop.com, the basketball fan’s defeat by gravity has been viewed over 170,000 times by fans laughing at the mans brave misfortune.

Experiencing similar difficulties to his team on Tuesday night, the unnamed fans’s failure to make more than three feet of air after using a trampoline has caused him to become an ironic hero.

‘I commend the guy for even trying the shot in front of thousands of people,’ said Red_Woody on reddit.com

‘I’m a big guy myself and I have nowhere near that confidence.

‘This thread will probably laugh at the fat flop, but I give the guy props.’

Some internet users have even gone as far as to discuss the aerodynamics behind the man’s abject attempts to make the dunk.

‘I was under the impression that weight wasn’t related to gravity,’ said wolfman863 on reddit.

‘As a matter of fact, he probably has more wind resistance keeping him floating slower than a skinny guy.

‘I assume that he just doesn’t have the leg muscle strength to ‘jump’ which is why he appears to drop.’

It’s the cheap shot heard ’round the world.

The video was shot during an Arizona college baseball game between the Scottsdale Fighting Artichokes and the Yavapai College Roughriders on March 29.

It begins innocently enough, with a sacrifice bunt from a Scottsdale player that drives in a run.

But off screen, some sort of conflict develops between the teams, and a bench-clearing brawl ensues.

As the umpires try to break up the fight, Yavapai outfielder Austin O’Such can suddenly be seen charging from left field before laying out Jake Bamrick, a Scottsdale infielder standing on second base, who didn’t even see O’Such coming.

The force of the hit knocked off Bamrick’s batting helmet and left him lying flat on the infield dirt – where a team trainer was eventually able to help him back to his feet.

On Saturday, Yavapai College Athletic Director Scott Farnsworth released the following statement through the college’s website:

He said: ‘Yavapai College and the Athletic Department aspire to the ideals of good sportsmanship and fair play. In no way do we condone the behavior as recorded in the video, which occurred on March 29, 2012 at the Yavapai versus Scottsdale Community College baseball game.

‘The YC player involved was immediately suspended by the college and will be suspended from play for the rest of the season. The college has implemented this action and will continue to work with the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) on current and future sanctions following conference procedures. Per conference rules team members from both teams involved in the on field incident have already served their suspensions’.

Austin O’Such:

O’Such’s player bio has since been removed from the Yavapai baseball page.

The incident has also sparked furor among users on social networking sites.

Amid the onslaught of anger against O’Such, he shut down his Twitter account, which included such recent tweets as ‘I think it’s beat down season’.

In addition, a group called ‘Ban Austin O’Such from League’ has sprung up on Facebook.

As for the game, the Artichokes wound up coming back from a 6-0 deficit to capture a 10-8 victory over the RoughRiders.

President Barack Obama has agreed to play in the final two rounds of the Masters.

It will be the first time a sitting President (or any President) will compete in the Masters, but President Obama loves golf so much that he is willing to put aside his busy schedule and team up with Tiger Woods for two rounds of competitive golf.

“The President is confident that the other golfers will defer to him on the golf course and he is looking forward to wearing the green jacket on Sunday,” said a source in the White House.

President Obama has a 17 handicap, but he is still going to be placed at the top of the leader board.

“The President deserves to be recognized for his golf skills, he is entitled to a green jacket.  It’s his to lose.”

Sources in the White House said that he would be willing to share a small portion of the $1.44 million prize for the Masters with the other golfers.  ”The President believes in sharing his wealth and he will donate up to $20,000 to be divided all the other golfers participating in the Master.  ”He’s being very generous.”

President Obama has also ordered that women be allowed into Augusta.

“He doesn’t think the club should discriminate against women any more.  He has issued an Executive Order forbidding Augusta to ban women.

Augusta’s longstanding policy of not permitting women as members has upset women’s groups and Democrats for years, and the annual Masters tournament always brings fresh attention to the issue.

The White House is thrilled that the President is competing in the Masters and they will be rooting for him to win – even though they know that it’s rigged.

“The President won the Nobel Peace Prize without doing anything, so I guess this makes sense,” said a Republican in Congress.

Tim Tebow has signed with tbe New Orleans Saints!  And the deal has been blessed by the Pope!

Peyton Manning signed with the Denver Broncos today and Tim Tebow began looking for a new home for his talents.  He soon found the perfect place –  Tebow is joining the New Orleans Saints.

Tebow first considered the Cardinals, on the advice of the Pope, but ultimately he decided to go with the New Orleans Saints and Saints fans were thrilled.  They headed to church:

So what about Drew Brees?

Well, Cool Brees is excited to be splitting quarterback duties with Tebow.  They two have been friends for the last five years and decided to go to a weekend retreat to bond with each other – and the Lord.

The Saints organization think they Tebow is the perfect fit and that he will take them, repeatedly, to the promised land – the Super Bowl.

Peyton Manning will be the next Denver quarterback, but the Broncos want him to come up with a move similar to Tebowing.

Part of the contract negotiations Peyton Manning is having with Denver, calls for Manning to come up with a signature move that will be as popular as the move Tim Tebow came up with:

John Elway, the General Manager of Denver and a close friend of Peyton’s, feels that Manning will have no problem coming up with a signature move.

“Denver fans are going to miss ‘Tebowing’ and we asked Peyton to come up with something just as good.  We’re confident that Peyton will have a move that will become even more popular that want Tim came up with,” a source close to Elway said.

WIll Manning honor Jesus in his move?

“That’s already been done, and Tebow is probably going to take Jesus with him to his next team,” Elway reportedly said.  ”Peyton has a lot of moves.  We know the fans will love it.”

SOUTH AMERICA – Dwarf Bullfighting is becoming the world’s fastest growing sport.

A posse of dwarf matadors are changing people’s perceptions of short people by touring South America with their popular bullfighting shows.

The travelling troupes are a BIG hit across the continent and have continued to consistently draw massive crowds over the last 30 years.

Unlike traditional bullfights, calves are used instead of full-size bulls and the animals are unharmed throughout the performance.

Despite the bullfighters’ bravery and athleticism, the performers admit they still have to work hard to change the public’s perception of the sport.

‘I think Americans may not understand what we do,’ performer Javier Landa, of the Original Bullfighting Dwarfs of Mexico, told USA Today.

“They may think we go out there to be laughed at, but that’s not the case.

“If a little person can fight a bull, he can do anything. That’s what we’re trying to prove.”

“We are tougher than the average person,” said the bullfighter.  This reporter than tossed him across the room.  He got right up.  Yes, they are tougher.

The pint-size actors come from a long-line of famous dwarfs and entertainers who have taken part in festivals and fairs across South America.

Competition for work is fierce amongst the different troupes with most of them also performing a series of different variety shows to boost interest.

A book celebrating the work of the dwarfs, who perform around 100 shows a year, is set to be released later this year.

Dwarf bullfighting is coming to America.  The first competition will be in Littleton, Colorado.

Peyton Manning’s career with the Indianapolis Colts is over.  He’s been cut.

Sources close to the Colts say the team will announce that four-time league MVP  Peyton Manning has been released from his contract.

Cutting him will prevent a $28 million cap hit for the team and instantly make Manning a highly sough after free agent.

Manning underwent multiple surgeries to fuse vertebrae in his neck over the past 19 months. He missed the entire 2011 season.  But Manning reportedly said he was in “better shape than when I was in high school.”   The Colts didn’t agree so – bye-bye Peyton.

The move was reportedly in the works ever since it became clear that the Colts would be in a position to draft Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck or Baylor quarter Robert Griffin, IIII.

Peyton was the face of the Indianapolis Colts franchise for many years.  He resurrected a team that spent most of its 13 previous years in the city as an NFL also-ran. Indy landed the No. 1 pick of the 1997 draft and used it to take Archie Manning’s son, a football player pegged for greatness ever since he stepped on a high school field.

Peyton ended up becoming the rare savior who lived up to expectations. He won Rookie of the Year in 1997, had the team in the playoffs in 1998 and only missed out on the postseason once more in the next 10 seasons. Manning won four league MVPs and led the Colts to their only Super Bowl win in Indianapolis in 2007.

Provided he’s able to play, he’ll attract unprecedented attention in the free-agent market.  The New York Jets are looking seriously at replacing Mark Sanchez with Petyon Manning.

Also, the New York Giants like players named Manning or Manningham so Peyton could go to the Giants as well.  Eli has said that he’d like to play receiver for a while and if Peyton takes over at quarterback, then the two brothers can play together.

Luck or Griffin will have to be the franchise’s next superstar.  The Colts are also scheduled to pick up Brady Quinn from Denver, who most likely will start the first few games of the season next year – until Luck or Griffin are ready.

Trippy, the beloved dog of New England Patriot coach, Bill Belichick, is in a deep depression following the Super Bowl.

The Belichick family is deeply concerned about their dog, Trippy (named after a sideline technique that Belichick developed).

A Super Bowl spycam caught Trippy on the sideline in the final seconds of the Super Bowl in Indianapolis on Sunday.

Since then Trippy has refused to eat and only laps at his Tom Brady Bowl twice or three times a day.

“We are VERY concerned,” said Belichick’s girlfriend, Linda Holliday.  ”Bill is depressed about the game, but Trippy is despondent.”

Trippy is reportedly always by Belichick’s side during Patriot practices.  Some say Trippy always looks depressed, but “that’s just the Belichick look,” said a friend of a Patriot cornerback.

Gisele Bundchen, Tom Brady’s wife, weighed in on Trippy’s depression.  ”Who cares about the damn dog?!  Can the dog catch a football?!  If he can, he should replace the rotten receivers Tommy has to throw to.”

Trippy reportedly bit Gisele on the ankle last summer. “They don’t like each other,” said a source close to the Patriots.

Patriots fans say that they saw one of the Giants’ players kick Trippy on the sideline, but WWN can not confirm that rumor.

Sports Illustrated Model, Kate Upton, is reportedly engaged to Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez.

Sports Illustrated covergirl s all the rage this week after the magazine’s annual swimsuit issue mega-unveiling, so naturally, her love life is in focus.

Today, Ellen DeGeneres pressed Kate  about her relationship with Mark Sanchez. The talk show host got straight to the point by asking stating, “Your boyfriend, New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez. How does he feel about this?”

“I did not have a Valentine’s date this year,” Kate Upton, 19, responded. Ellen was unfazed by that seemingly implausible, evasive response, continuing:

“OK, so he was busy … So how does your boyfriend Mark Sanchez feel about all this whole Sports Illustrated cover thing? He must be proud, right?”

“Well, even if I had a boyfriend. I wouldn’t ask how he felt about it,” Kate said, persistently dodging Ellen’s questions. But again, it didn’t end there.

BUT, WWN has learned from sources close to Upton and sources close to Mark Sanchez’s old USC teammates that on Valentine’s Day, Sanchez popped the question.  ”He asked her to marry him and she said yes,” said a source close to Sanchez.

So why is she keeping it all a secret?

“She’s the covergirl on SI!  She’s every guy’s fantasy right now and it would really ruin the fantasy to know that she’s with Mark Sanchez AND she’s getting married.  That’s a bummer for most guys, so she’s not admitting anything.”

Upton’s sister has worked for the Jets for four years.  That’s how she met Sanchez.  They plan to marry in the summer right before the start of another NFL season.
