ANAHEIM, CA – Fans went berserk last night when a player tossed his hockey stick into the crowd!

The Anaheim Ducks played the Tampa Bay Lightning last night. As Ducks’ Scott Niedermayer skated out onto the ice, he decided to toss his stick into the audience as a souvenir.

He had no idea how competitive the Ducks fans would be…

NASHVILLE, TN – Bud Adams, owner of the Tennessee Titans, got a little too into the game yesterday!

The Tennessee Titans played and beat the Buffalo Bills 41-17. Their owner, 86 year old Bud Adams, was in attendance to cheer on his players.

Video was taken of Adams enthusiastically doing the “hook ‘em” hand gesture of the Texas Longhorns, who Titans quarterback Vince Young used to play for.

But Adams quickly switched to different gesture for the Bills…

Titans players have come to the defense of their owner. Linebacker Stephen Tulloch said, “He is a cool owner and it is good to see him around here supporting us. To have an owner like that, it’s cool.”

NFL officials are looking into the events.

CHICAGO, IL – Chicago Cubs fans are concerned with the drastically lightened skin of Sammy Sosa.

The former Cubs slugger has been off the team since 2007, and decided this year to officially retired from Major League Baseball. Sosa was born in the Dominican Republic but played for American teams since 1989.

However, recently he was photographed on the red carpet with his wife at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. His skin appeared to be drastically lighter!

A former Cubs employee, Rebecca Polihronis, has spoken out, explaining that he is undergoing a skin cleansing process. “He has always been concerned with the way he looks,” she said.

“He is going through a rejuvenation process for his skin,” Polihronis continued. “Women have it all of the time. He was surprised he came out looking so white. I thought it was a body double. Part of (the photo appearance) is just the lighting.”

Michael Jackson also went through questions of skin bleaching, but Jackson consistently denied such claims, saying he suffered from both vitiligo and lupus.

PROVO, UT – The New Mexico University Women’s soccer team may have lost the game, but won some street cred!

New Mexico University played against Brigham Young University’s Cougars in the 2009 MWC Women’s Soccer Tournament. BYU barely won with a 1-0 score, especially after being brutalized by the New Mexico players!

BUFFALO, NY – A statue weighing over 1,000 pounds was stolen from outside the Buffalo Bills stadium!

The Buffalo Bills suffered a sad 6-3 loss against the Cleveland Browns this past Sunday. But it wasn’t the only thing they lost.

Some time that night, a tree statue of former running back Thurman Thomas was stolen from in front of the stadium!

While theft of team statues and mascots isn’t that uncommon, the statue was well over 1,000 pounds. It had been carved from a tree as part of the Carvings for a Cause initiative, which used trees that had been struck down during the October Surprise snowstorm of 2006.

Said Carvings for a Cause founder Therese Forton-Barnes, “I’ve never had anybody steal a carving. They weigh anywhere from 1,000 to 2,000 pounds.”

Police have no suspects as of yet. Due to the heft of the statue, it would have taken at least a small group of people as well as some kind of flatbed truck.

A leading archaeologist says the ancient Egyptians invented baseball 3,500 years ago before Abner Doubleday, the creator of today’s version, was even born!

“Baseball might well be the great American pastime but if they think they invented the game, they’re crazy,” Dr. Peter Drost told reporters in Arnhem, Holland.

“The Egyptians were playing a near identical version thousands of years ago. They called it ‘hit-catch’ and liked it so much they played teh sport year-round.”

The expert based his shocking claims on the translation of a papyrus scroll discovered in Egypt last year.

If his interpretation is accurate, Egyptian hit-catch was played by two six-man teams using crude leather gloves, wooden bats and a ball composed of tightly wrapped palm fronds.

The ancient game used only three bases, unlike today’s four, but the object was otherwise the same: Hit the ball as far as possible and round the bases to score.

Perhaps the most unusual aspect of the Egyptian version was an element of violence, said the expert.

Outfielders were equipped with small daggers and were allowed to hurl them at base runners after they rounded second and attempted to score.

“Players had the status of minor gods and almost always came from the upper classes,” said Dr. Drost.

“The lower classes and slaves were strictly forbidden to play but were very aware of the scores and top players.

“Spectators were almost exclusively from the families of the pharoahs and their courts,” Dr. Drost said. “They often viewed the action from what would be called sky boxes in our modern major league stadiums.

“Games were followed by wild parties and feasts. Winners were treated like heroes.”

The scroll the describes the Egyptian game is written in rule-book form and doesn’t say when the Egyptians started playing hit-catch.

It does suggest that the game was most popular between 1460 and 1390 BC, not long before the famed King Tut was born around 1370 BC.

Other evidence shows the game was still being played during Tut’s life.

“It’s not very clear why the Egyptians stopped playing, but we know that they did because there are no other references to the game in the historical record,” said Dr. Drost.

“I imagine after a while, people just get bored and start doing something else.”

PARK CITY, UT – A restaurant manager won a million dollars by hitting a hole in one!

Jason Hargett participated in the Mark Eaton Celebrity Golf Tournament, despite almost not going due to a sore wrist. After qualifying in a special competition, Hargett became one of three to try for a million dollars.

All he had to do was make a hole-in-one, an incredibly difficult shot even for a pro.

NEW YORK, NY – During his US Open match yesterday, Roger Federer made a shot that must be seen to be believed!

Federer played a match with Novak Djokovic yesterday during the 2009 US Open championship. While tennis fans weren’t surprised by his eventual win, they couldn’t believe how he did it.

The Swiss player reached match point by performing a between-the-legs passing shot! He later described it as “the greatest shot I ever hit in my life.”

PITTSBURGH, PA – Steelers player Troy Polamalu was injured in last night’s season opener. Has the Madden Curse struck again?

After making an impressive intercept, Pittsburgh Steelers strong safety Polamalu suddenly went down with a knee injury. He was taken out of the game, and it is unclear when he will be able to play again.

However, his injury has become notable due to the fact that he was on the Madden NFL 10 video game. Some believe this means he has suffered the Madden Curse.

Up until 1999, former football player John Madden was on the cover of every Madden NFL video game. Since then, the NFL has picked one of the current season’s top players to feature prominently on the cover of each game.

Many NFL fans have noted that a number of featured players have seen their performance decline, usually due to an injury.

The list includes:

Michael Vick – Madden NFL 2004
Donovan McNabb – Madden NFL 06
Shaun Alexander – Madden NFL 2007
Vince Young – Madden NFL 08
Brett Favre – Madden NFL 09
Troy Polamalu – Madden NFL 10

Vick was sidelined for the majority of the 2003 season after receiving a leg injury. Alexander had been the Most Valuable Player until he sustained a foot injury and was unable to achieve his previous winning streak. And Young had been the starting quarterback until he received a knee injury, a position which he never got back.

The video game creator, EA Sports, has said they don’t believe in the curse. Many NFL players don’t believe in it either, contributing the “curse” to the basic fact that football is a very physical sport and most players sustain an injury at some point in their career.

However, Young received his injury after appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live and declaring he would not fall to the Madden Curse. Fans of San Diego Chargers’ LaDainian Tomlinson even created a site called SaveLTfromMadden.com to protest over his appearance on the video games’ cover, for fear he would be injured. He ultimately did not feature on the game.

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – NBA player Danny Granger is moving forward with his elaborate house plans, which include a batcave!

Danny Granger Jr. is a professional basketball player for the NBA’s Indiana Pacers. During the off-season, he prefers to live in Albuquerque with his wife.

He is still in the midst of having plans drafted for his dream home, but he’s confessed to including Batman’s batcave!

In the past, Granger admitted to already having a “man-room” where he plays his video games, but his hope was to have a cave with a hidden entrance, like the one Batman drives his Batmobile into. Now that his sports career has taken off, his dream is becoming a reality!

In a recent interview, Granger explained that his plans are very specific and intricate, so it will take a year and a half until the house is completed.

Granger said, “What I took out, I wanted an underground tunnel entrance. I had to take that out. I found out there’s so many state codes and laws against that so we had to take that one out.”

“But we still have the underground thing going on and I mean I’ve got cars and things that turn my cars and I even got sort of like a moat thing going on so it will be interesting to see.”

There is no word yet on whether Bat Boy will follow suit. Since his windfall after discovering peak guano, Bat Boy should have enough cash to update his own cave with real style.
