WASHINGTON - Anthony Weiner told WWN this morning he will resign from office today.

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) told Frank Lake of WWN  this morning that he is going to resign from office and will be making an announcement at 2pm today.

CNN and the NY TIMES are confirming WWN’s exclusive story:  Weiner will resign today.  A press conference will be announced later.

Frank Lake spent the morning making waffles for  Weiner and Huma.  Huma told Lake that she still supports her husband, but that the best thing for the country – and their marriage – is for “Anthony to give up his House seat.”

Weiner also told Frank Lake that still intends to run for Mayor of New York City.

Weiner showed Lake his package – even though Lake did not ask to see it.

Later today, Weiner will tell reporters and the world, that he is going into treatment and that his top priority when he comes out is to repair the damage he has done to his marriage. “Huma, and our unborn child are all I am focused on now.”

Well, that and a porn video – which Weiner has signed on to star in.  Apparently, he couldn’t turn down the very lucrative offer from Vivid Entertainment.

In recent weeks, the embattled congressman has resisted calls to step down from his post amid intense controversy surrounding inappropriate interactions he admitted to engaging in online and lewd photos surfacing of the congressman.

The scandal got even stranger Wednesday, when a former porn actress who exchanged emails and messages with Weiner said he asked her to lie about their interactions.  Weiner has acknowledged sending sexually explicit messages and suggestive photos of himself to various women and then lying about it. The New York congressman has taken a two-week leave from the House and is reported to be in treatment at an undisclosed location.

The Baby Food Diet is all the rage in Europe and  Hollywood!

Cabbage soup, that lemonade-maple-syrup-cayenne-pepper-concoction, the ubiquitous acai berry cleanse: quick-fix fad diets often go out of style as quickly as they came in.

But according to recent reports out of Europe, the trendy so-called ‘baby food diet” — which involves eating pureed fruits and vegetables 14 times a day — is showing signs of staying power. And the real surprise? It’s not that bad for you.

The diet, created by trainer-to-the-stars Tracy Anderson, who later distanced herself from the craze, became popular in the spring of last year after Jennifer Aniston and Lady Gaga were rumored to be fans.

Last month, it was reported that British celebrity Cheryl Cole had also jumped on the baby food bandwagon. The UK-based web grocer Ocado compared baby food sales before and after the reports and noticed a significant increase.

“While Ocado cannot categorically state this uplift was due to media discussion around the diet there was a confirmed sales spike,” a spokesperson for Ocado said via email.

While the diet has some obvious drawbacks, like depriving users of the pleasures associated with eating un-pureed food, it has one distinct advantage over other extreme weight loss techniques: According to health experts, it’s not as bad as you might think.

“Food that makes a baby grow is pretty good food,” said Dr. Samuel Klein, Director, Center for Human Nutrition at Washington University Medical School in St. Louis.

Klein explained that baby foods typically don’t have much added sugar, sodium or preservatives. Because fruits and vegetables are baby food staples, those on the diet are likely to take in a decent amount of these oft-neglected food groups.

Other positives include the built-in portion control store-bought infant food affords. If your meals are all measured out, you might be less likely to overindulge.

However, experts seem to agree that the diet’s upsides compared to other fads don’t make it a permanent solution.

“Who wants to eat baby food 14 times a day?” said Jim White, a registered dietitian and spokesman for the American Dietetic Association. “We’ve got to enjoy ourselves too, and chew our food. It’s just not livable, unless you’re in a retirement home.”

White suggested using baby food as a supplement to snack on or curb your appetite is a much better alternative.

New York-based psychiatrist Marianne Gillow, a third of whose patients struggle with eating disorders, pointed out that the diet could be useful to jump start a health kick but that it doesn’t get to the root of the problem. Moderation, as exhibited in the Department of Agriculture’s recently released food plate makes a lot more sense to her.

“The biggest problem with a lot of fad diets is that it doesn’t teach you how to make peace with food in the real world,” she said. Learning to eat healthfully, she added, is “almost like the process of psychotherapy: you need to think through your relationship with food.”

ICELAND – Mother Nature had a huge effect on airline travel across Europe!

A volcanic eruption has spewed large amounts of ash that has drifted over to Britain. The disruption caused by the ash is so serious that it has caused authorities to close several airports and ground numerous flights.

London’s Heathrow Airport has been shut down, a major airport that handles roughly 1,200 flights and 180,000 passengers per day. Hundreds of flights across Europe have met the same fate. Air traffic was put to a complete stop in Scotland and Northern Ireland as no flights were going out or in of both countries.

The volcanic ash is deemed a “significant safety threat to an aircraft” by air traffic officials. Hundreds were evacuated from Iceland on Wednesday as part of a glacier was melted by the volcano, flooding part of the southeastern area of the island.

France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Switzerland are all countries that have been affected by the volcanic ash. Airplanes face safety issues because of the volcanic as due to impaired visibility and microscopic debris getting stuck in an airplane’s engine and shutting it down.

“At the present time it is impossible to say when we will resume flying,” said Henrik Peter Joergensen, spokesman for Copenhagen International Airport.

If the volcano continues to erupt, airports across Europe could be severely affected for the near future.

When it comes to relationships with men, women sometimes do the dumbest things.

There are eight stupid things women do to mess up their love lives, but they can avoid them by following some simple advice:

1. LIVE  YOUR LIFE THROUGH YOUR MAN –  Women who let a man control the relationship eventually feel cheated and angry.   “Be the best you can be in your own right.”   You need to take a stand for things in your life, and in the relationship that you want.   Don’t wrap your whole life around his!

2. SETTLING FOR A MAN – Desperate women settle for any man. Don’t settle for anyone less than you deserve.  It may take longer to find the right guy but you won’t be stuck with a bum.   Don’t act desperate, good men can smell the desperation a mile away.  Just be confident, be yourself and believe that the right man will come along – because he will!

3.  CONFUSING PASSION FOR LOVE -  Too many women have sex out of a feeling of emptiness or hunger for approval.  The result:  Disaster!  Sex too soon can make you feel worthless.  Wait and choose a partner you’ve gotten to like as a person first.   Men actually like women MORE if they withhold sex for a while because they deem you “marriage material.”  No man wants to get involved in a serious relationship with an “easy” woman.

4.  DON’T LIVE TOGETHER BEFORE MARRIAGE:  Yeah, this sounds old school, outdated and… crazy.  But studies repeatedly show that couples who live together before marriage are one-third more likely to break up within 10 years.  Wait until the two of you know, love and respect each other. Then get married.    Make a commitment, then move in… don’t move in without the commitment.

5.  EXPECTING TOO MUCH FROM A MAN:  Women with low self=esteem expect marriage to bring total fulfillment.  But they’re doomed to disappointment when Prince Charming doesn’t meet expectations.  Choose a compatible mate, not a mn you think will solve your problems.   Ask any married woman – happily or not – men can not, and do not, solve all your problems.

6. HAVING A BABY FOR THE WRONG REASON: Women who have a child to fix a broken relationship often become trapped with a man they should dump.  Make an intelligent decision about having a child.  You have the power over you own body.  Do NOT have a baby just to keep a man in a relationship with you.  That spells – doom.

7.  HAVING LOW  STANDARDS! -  Over the years women’s standards and requirements have lowered.  Men know that and have taken advantage of it.   Many woman don’t require anything of a man. So many standards have been lowered by women that now a man doesn’t have to climb over a very high bar to get to her. So now you have more men who can get away with more things with more women without any repercussions.   Don’t accept less than you deserve – and you deserve everything!

8.  NOT LOVING YOURSELF – If you love yourself and are happy in your own skin, you will be attractive to men.  Take time for yourself.  Decided what you want in life, picture your perfect life – and then go out and get it!   There is no reason in today’s world for a woman not to love herself or to get the help she needs in learning HOW to love herself.   You are special, treat yourself right!   Love yourself first, men will follow.

FRANCE – Scientists have uncovered some secrets in an iconic painting!

The Mona Lisa, one of Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpieces, was hiding some secrets that have finally been cracked thanks to researchers and scientists. French researchers studied various da Vinci paintings to analyze the painter’s use of successive ultrathin layers of paint and glaze – a technique that gave his works their dreamy quality.

Experts from the Centre for Research and Restoration of the Museums of France analyzed the artist’s technique using a non-invasive method called X-ray fluorescence. Da Vinci’s saddling method, called sfumato, is will known. Thanks to the careful study of seven of da Vinci’s paintings, scientists have been able to reconstruct his unique style.

The study found that da Vinci painted up to 30 layers of paint on his works to meet his standards of subtlety. Added up, all the layers are less than 40 micrometers, or about half the thickness of a man hair, researcher Philippe Walter said Friday.

X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, the technique used by the study group, is so precise that “now we can find out the mix of pigments used by the artist for each coat of paint,” Walter told The Associated Press. “And that’s very, very important for understanding the technique.”

The study revealed that da Vinci was always attempting new methods with his paintings. With the Mona Lisa, da Vinci added a manganese oxide in the shadings’ glaze; in other paintings he experimented with copper.

The results were published Wednesday in Angewandte Chemie International Edition, a chemistry journal.

CHINA – A mysterious light in the skies of China has caused quite the buzz!

On July 7, Xiaoshan Airport closed down and delayed 18 flights. The reason being that an oddly shaped bright light appeared in the sky and caused confusion and panic. The fear levels have gone down, but people are still wondering what that light was.

The unidentified flying object (UFO), as its being called now, captured the attention of the Chinese media and sparked a firestorm of speculation on the UFO’s identity. An ABC News article on the mysterious sighting, explains the event in greater detail.

“It is a hidden U.S. bomber flying toward China,” one Internet user wrote on Monday. Another wrote on Saturday night, “In my opinion, the UFO is neither a U.S. missile nor a Russian satellite. Suggestions that it is extraterrestrial are even more preposterous. Everyone, use your head. This is clearly a man-made phenomenon. Would the U.S. or Russia risk provoking China’s anger by firing a missile or satellite rocket in Chinese skies, without warning? I believe the Chinese military is responsible for the UFO. It is a new missile or aircraft being tested out.”

The speculation is high, but UFO doesn’t necessarily mean little, green men. The ABC article explains that a day following the sighting, “an anonymous source told China Daily that authorities already discovered the identity of the UFO after an investigation but could not publicly disclose the information because ‘there was a military connection.’”

Authorities are continuing to look into the incident, but until the public receives some concrete answers, their minds will continue to wander. Many things fail to peak the interest of a society as much as a good UFO sighting or story. The Web has soared with searches for “china ufo.” Something strange happened, for sure, and we’ll all be on the edge of our seat until we find out what it was.

ISRAEL – A group of soldiers sparked outrage with their dance routine!

Six Israeli soldiers have escaped being penalized after a video of them doing a dance routine while on duty in the West Bank went viral in Israel. The video shows the troops breaking into a choreographed dance routine, set to US singer Kesha’s dance hit Tik Tok.

The unit is patrolling Hebron, an ancient city on the West Bank, which is home to many sites that Jews, Muslims and Christians consider holy. Some 600 Israeli settlers live in the city among roughly 160,000 Palestinians – which means it has also been the site of tension over the Israeli occupation.

The Israeli Defense Forces brass was not amused at their dance routine. In a statement, the IDF leadership called the performances a “joke by the soldiers” that amounts to “inappropriate conduct during a military operation” and will be “investigated by battalion commanders.”

The video, first posted on YouTube on Friday by the user “cleangrunge,” has since disappeared from its original account – but several other users have reposted it.

Initial reports said the six were facing disciplinary action, but the army later said the soldiers were just fooling around and no harm was done.

LOS ANGELES, CA – One rapper gives a whole new meaning to “go big or go home!”

Snoop Dogg has a taste for the finer things and a want for the extravagant. He’s cultivated a larger than life personality and sometimes the only thing that can accommodate such a personality is an entire country. The rap star was in talks to rent the nation of Liechtenstein.

Dogg wanted the entire county to be the spot for his upcoming video shoot and the deal fell apart only due to Dogg’s time constraints. The news of such an epic deal came as a surprise to the tiny, affluent principality. Liechtenstein scoffed at the idea that their county was looking to be part of Snoop Dogg’s posse.

“There is no ‘For Rent’ sign on our country,” ambassador Claudia Fritsche told the NY Post. “No part of any government agency is involved in this.”

A Liechtenstein property manager, Karl Schwaerzler, insisted to the Mirror that Dogg indeed wanted to rent all 61 square miles of the country for his video shoot.

“We’ve had requests for places and villages but never one to hire the whole country before,” he said. “It would have been possible, but Snoop Dogg’s management did not give us enough time.”

SOUTH AFRICA – One team’s turmoil has threatened its progression at the World Cup!

France qualified for the World Cup on a controversial call. Thierry Henry’s double handball, which referees failed to see, saw France through to the tournament at the expense of Ireland. It seems only fitting that “Les Bleus” are falling apart and on the verge of being eliminated as many feel as though they never should have been included in the field of 32 teams.

France managed a lifeless and uninspired draw against Uruguay in their opening match which caused French legend Zinedine Zidane disappointment. French supporters called and clamored for something more in their next match against Mexico and what they got left much to be desired. France went out and got outplayed by the Mexicans and suffered a humbling 2-0 loss. That might have been the straw that broke the camel’s back.

French striker Nicolas Anelka found himself on his way home Saturday evening after being thrown off the team by French coach Raymond Domenech. Anelka’s expulsion was punishment for his profanity-laced tirade against Domenech following the defeat to Mexico.

A day after Anelka’s expulsion, France’s turmoil rose to the surface again. A training ground argument between French captain Patrice Evra and fitness coach Robert Duverne had to be broken up by Domenech. Immediately after, the team refused to train and proceeded to board the team bus as a protest for Anelka being thrown off the team. To make matters worse, team director Jean-/louis Valentin gave his resignation Sunday.

“It’s a scandal for the French, for the young people here. It’s a scandal for the federation and the French team,” Valentin said. “They don’t want to train. It’s unacceptable.”

“As for me, it’s over. I’m leaving the federation. I’m sickened and disgusted,” Valentin added, who walked away from the training field, got into a car and drove off.

After the fallout, Domenech read a letter from Evra and the players to the press saying that they were boycotting training in support of Anelka, who reportedly announced his international retirement after his dismissal.

With this much turmoil surrounding the French, it remains to be seen what kind of performance they will manage against host country South Africa in their upcoming match. Given the current state of affairs, it would come as a surprise if the French were to manage to qualify for the next round.

AFGHANISTAN – In the midst of turmoil, one country has turned up a stunning discovery filled with vast riches!

The United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan. The stunning discovery is enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Afghan war itself, according to senior government officials.

The previously unknown deposits – including huge veins of iron, copper, cobalt, gold and critical industrial metals like lithium – are so big and include so many materials that are essential to modern industry that Afghanistan could eventually be transformed into one of the most important mining centers in the world, United States officials believe.

The Afghan “gold mine” was discovered by a small team of Pentagon officials and American geologists. The Afghan government and President Hamid Karzai were recently briefed.

“There is stunning potential here,” Gen. David H. Petraeus, commmander of the United States Central Command, said in an interview on Saturday. “There are a lot of ifs, of course, but I think potentially it is hugely significant.”

According to the NY Times, an internal Pentagon memo states that Afghanistan could become the “Saudi Arabia of Lithium,” a key raw material in the manufacture of batteries for laptops and BlackBerrys.

“I think it’s very, very big news for the people of Afghanistan and that we hope will bring then Afghan people together for a cause that will benefit everyone,” Waheed Omar said, spokesman for the president. “This is an economic interest that will benefit all Afghans and will benefit Afghanistan in the long run.”
